Meet Oreo — the 20lb cuddle muffin who believes personal space is just a silly human concept. At 5 years old, this clumsy little comedian lives for love, attention, and being as close to you as physically (and impossibly) possible. If he could crawl into your skin, he absolutely would — your love is his drug, and he’s hopelessly addicted.

Oreo is dog-friendly, people-obsessed, and the perfect blend of goofy and sweet. He’s a professional kisser, world-class snuggler, and a certified “good boy” enthusiast who will never get tired of hearing it. Basically, he’s a stage 5 clinger… but in the most adorable, heart-melting way imaginable.

My name is MOOKIE (3 years, 33 lbs of pure, unadulterated need). Look at this head. Look at it! It’s disproportionately large because it’s packed with exactly one thought: PET ME.
I am 90% human-attachment device and 10% dog. I tolerate other dogs, but let’s be clear: If you are petting another canine in my presence, I will deploy the “Tactical B***y Bump” to launch them into the astral plane. This is not aggression; this is efficiency. You will pet me, and you will like it.
I’m told I am “great on a leash.” Of course I am. I’m literally dragging myself toward the next available source of worship. When I’m not demanding affection (which is almost never), I will play with other dogs, but only to build up enough adorable-dog-currency to cash in for more pets.

Adoption Requirements: Must be willing to sign over all future personal space and prepare for a lifetime of physical contact.

We are so grateful that Santa took the time to spread holiday cheer and pose for pictures with some of our dogs. It was truly a festive and fun-filled day!

Huge thanks to our volunteers for loving on our dogs, and to for capturing the event and providing such a fantastic platform for our pups to meet some potential future families. Events like this make a huge difference! ❤️

Meet Butterscotch, a gentle 10-year-old soul who spent her golden years abandoned at a shelter, unsure why her world had suddenly changed. When she arrived, she was heartbreakingly shut down—her fur painfully matted, covered in debris, and too scared to even lift her head. She curled into the smallest ball she could make, hoping the world would simply leave her alone. She wouldn’t come forward to greet anyone; she had lost trust, and she had lost hope.

At just 30 lbs, she’s still gaining weight after refusing to eat in the shelter from fear and confusion. But despite everything she’s endured, Butterscotch is quietly, bravely learning to live again.

In her foster home, she’s slowly opening up. She has discovered that gentle hands are safe, soft voices are comforting, and she now allows volunteers to pet her with a sweetness that melts your heart. She is still early in her journey—learning what love feels like, learning how to walk on a leash, learning that she matters.

Butterscotch lights up around other dogs. Their presence brings her comfort, confidence, and a sense of belonging. Her ideal home will have another friendly dog to help guide her the rest of the way forward.

Join Mutts in Need at Mathis Home at the Marketplace in Irvine from 10am-1pm this Saturday, November 15.

Mathis Home and Fox 11 are teaming up to help families find their FURever friends. Local rescues across Orange County will bring more than 50 adoptable dogs and cats to the outdoor patio for a family-friendly event. Plus, snap selfies on the photobooth and with Santa! Families will get to enjoy free face painting, the chance to meet adoptable pets, and shop local pet-friendly vendors.

Meet Winston, the 5-month-old gentleman with the scruffy charm of a rom-com lead and the cuddling skills of a pro nap partner. 🐾
He may not know exactly what breed he is (we’re calling it mystery mix chic), but he’s got a wire-haired coat and cute pointy ears. Winston is currently under 20 lbs and all goofball energy. He’s house-trained, walks great on a leash, and has great house manners—basically, he’s the full package.
When he’s not showing off his good-boy behavior, he’s busy being the ultimate snuggle bug or playing with his dog pals. Winston’s love language? All of them. Cuddles, kisses, tail wags—he gives them all generously. ❤️

Paxton is a 6-month-old Border Collie mix with a heart full of love and a tail that never stops wagging. He’s the kind of dog who would tell you “I love you” on the very first date — and mean it. The kind you can proudly bring home to your parents because, let’s be honest, he’s got main character energy.

Paxton is dog-friendly, people-friendly, and basically everyone’s favorite new best friend. He’s still a young boy with that fun, goofy puppy energy, so he’ll keep you entertained on a daily basis.

You’re probably thinking “this is too good to be true” and question why he’s not adopted yet and honestly, we’re wondering the same thing! His ideal home won’t leave him alone too often since he just loves knowing you’re nearby whether he’s included on the fun or not, but knowing him, he definitely wants in on whatever you’re doing. 😜

Rosie’s world changed the day Duncan crossed the rainbow bridge. The two were inseparable — they came into rescue together after being surrendered by their owner, and they found comfort in each other through everything. Now, Rosie is all alone. And when we look into her eyes, we can see it — the quiet sadness of missing her best friend.

At 10 years old, Rosie still has so much love to give. She’s gentle, affectionate, and finds peace simply being near her humans. She’s wonderful with other dogs and would thrive in a calm home where she won’t be left alone too often — a home where she can finally feel like someone’s one and only.

Her foster family adores her, but they can tell she misses having that deep bond — both with a dog companion and a human who truly has time for her. Rosie deserves that kind of love again.

If your heart is open to giving a senior dog the comfort and care she’s longing for, please consider fostering or adopting Rosie. You might just be the person who helps her heart heal. 💕
