Here's a peak at the newest addition 😍 This is a new color gene from Australia called "Splash" and the temperament of these guys is amazing! I've never seen quail so chill and calm and practically snuggly 😲🥹🥰

First hatch of the season, jumbo pharaoh from Bryant’s Roost 😍 Some of these little cuties will be available as sexed juveniles at the next Carolina Town and Country flock swap on April 5th.

This is a such an exciting time to be involved with quail! Fee is one of my favorite genes to work with 😍

Here’s a little visual for the Fee gene.

Fee is a gene that removes shades of brown and gold, resulting in greyscale plumage.

The top row is without fee.

Middle row is one copy of Fee. The Fee gene has removed some brown/gold, but not all.

Bottom row is two copies of the Fee gene. You can see more brown/gold has been removed.

Six days old and the babies got upgraded to a bigger brooder. They are old enough to use a feeder now, as well as understand pine shavings aren't food. Their feathers are really coming in, and they've already more than doubled in size. These resilient little birds just made it through their first power outage too! I filled a half gallon mason jar with hot water as soon as the power went out and buried it on it's side in the pine shavings. The jar was still very warm when I removed it two hours later.
