Ollie the parakeet and Alice the goat were just two of the many patients who brought joy to my weekend. I had the chance to meet some amazing pet owners who go above and beyond for their pets. I love not knowing who’s going to walk through the door.

Kitten season is upon us. What is kitten season? As the weather gets warmer, an influx of stray cats give birth, marking the beginning of Kitten Season. Kitten Season is arriving early this year, prompted by a milder winter. Thousands of kittens are brought to Utah shelters and rescues, leading to severe shortages of foster homes and resources.

What can you do?

🐈‍⬛ Foster: Shelters always need foster homes, especially during this time.

🍼 Donate: Items like kitten formula, wet food, heating pads, and litter are in high demand.

✂️Spay/Neuter: Your family veterinarian is more than happy to schedule your cat’s surgery.

Other spay and neuter options:
The Humane Society of Utah offers a “Last Litter Program” to fix mothers and adopt out kittens.
• Spay and Neuter of Salt Lake
• Wasatch Community Clinic
• Operation Pawpulation
• Affordable Animal Care Utah

🚨Early Breeding: Cats can become pregnant at only 4 months old, often having 3+ litters per year.

You might be a vet tech if you have “medically interesting” or “once in a career medical case” pets. 🙄 🐾🩺👩‍⚕️

Thank you Dr. Watkins, Carlin and everyone who took care of my spicy kitty.

It speaks for itself.

Kicked it old school with the crew at VCA Urgent Care Sugarhouse and made valentines boxes. I have to say they knocked it out of the park! Vote for your favorite in the comments. Obviously is a clinic favorite 🤩

Throw back to Valentine’s 2022 with co-conceptual artist Dr. Laura McLain. We’re definitely nuts about vet med.

One year. 🤍

This month marks the one-year anniversary of The Locum LVT, PLLC, and I’ve spent some time reflecting on the goals I set when I took the leap into relief veterinary technician work.

I didn’t just hope it would work — I set very clear intentions for myself: personal, professional, and financial.

✨ Personal goal:
To be more present for my family.

✨ Professional goals:
• To set and control my schedule
• To work at the very top of my license
• To continue growing within my field
• To foster healthy, collaborative relationships with clinics and hospitals
• To establish and maintain strong professional boundaries

✨ Financial goal:
To earn the wage I deserve for 26 years of skill, dedication, and experience.

And this year?
Every. Single. Goal. Was. Met.

I never expected to discover this much happiness and freedom in veterinary medicine. Relief work has reminded me why I fell in love with this profession in the first place — the medicine, the teamwork, the impact, and the ability to show up fully as myself.

To every friend, colleague, clinic, and hospital who has trusted me, supported me, referred me, encouraged me, and cheered me on — thank you. Your support means more than you know.

Here’s to one year of growth, courage, and freedom — and to whatever this next year brings. 🐾💙
