Foxtail season is in full swing, and unfortunately caring for pets who have come into contact with foxtails has become a daily occurrence around the hospital. 🌾🐾

Here is Dr. Lee and Charlie, CVT, removing a foxtail from the paw of one of our amazing patients. Foxtails may seem small, but they can cause significant pain, infection, swelling, and even migrate deeper into the body if not addressed quickly.

The good news? By welcoming an additional veterinarian to our team, we are able to help more pets when they need us most and can typically accommodate same-day appointments for urgent concerns like foxtails. 💚

If your pet is suddenly licking their paws, limping, shaking their head, sneezing excessively, or seems uncomfortable after being outdoors, don’t wait — foxtails can become serious quickly!!

May is National Pet Month!

May is also a perfect reminder that preventive care and early detection matter!

At our hospital we believe even the smallest changes in your pet deserves attention — including those “little lumps and bumps” that you may think are normal.

That’s why we utilize advanced IDEXX Digital Cytology technology in our hospital to help evaluate masses, skin lesions, and concerning bumps quickly and efficiently.

Using a small needle sample, images are digitally reviewed by a veterinary clinical pathologist to help determine whether a mass appears inflammatory, infectious, fatty, or potentially cancerous — often without the need for sedation or surgery. This test helps us identify things such as:

*Fatty tumors (lipomas)
*Cancers such as: Mast cell tumors, lymphoma, melanoma, soft tissue sarcomas, plasma cell tumors, certain carcinomas
*Inflammatory masses and cysts
*Skin and ear infections (bacteria/yeast)
*Abscesses and infected wounds

Some masses may still require additional testing or biopsy, but cytology is often an excellent first step and less invasive in helping us create the best plan for your pet.

This National Pet Month, give your pets the gift of proactive care and don’t ignore new lumps, bumps, or skin changes. Not all bumps are created equal.

Please enjoy some photos from our team and our adorable patients.

Drop your pets photos below we would love to see their cute faces!!! 🐶🐱

Everyone meet Monserrat! This beautiful meow belongs to one of our Client Service Representatives, Stephanie. Stephanie is doing her due diligence in making sure her sweet girl is okay after having some concerns about her coat/skin. After Dr. Davis completed a comprehensive exam on Monserrat, she is in the clear!

Persian cats are adorable—but they’re also one of the breeds that benefit most from routine veterinary care. Because of their flat faces, long coats, and breed-specific genetics, Persians are more prone to:
• Breathing issues
• Eye irritation and ulcers
• Dental disease
• Painful matting and skin infections
• Kidney disease (including PKD)
• Silent heart disease

And like most cats… they’re experts at hiding illness.

That means subtle changes—less grooming, tear staining, noisy breathing, bad breath, or decreased appetite—can be early signs of something more serious.

Routine vet visits help catch these problems early, before they become painful, costly, or dangerous. Preventive care is one of the best ways to keep Persian cats healthy, comfortable, and thriving.

Even the fluffiest little divas deserve to look fabulous and feel fabulous.

It’s that time of year in Utah again… foxtail season is here!

These pesky little grass awns may look harmless, but they can cause big problems for pets. Foxtails love to hide in ears, noses, eyes, paws, skin folds, and even the ge***al area—causing pain, infection, and sometimes even requiring sedation or surgery to remove.

We see them every year, and trust us… they’re much easier to prevent than to pull out.

After hikes, walks, or time in dry grassy areas, be sure to check your pet from nose to tail—especially those paws! If your pet is suddenly sneezing, shaking their head, limping, squinting, or excessively licking, a foxtail may be the culprit.

Foxtails are small… but they can cause big problems. If you suspect one, give us a call right away! 801-849-0080

Did you know… cats are one of the most common pets to skip routine veterinary care—and one of the most likely to hide illness until disease is advanced?

Here’s why routine vet visits matter for cats:

Dental Disease: Most cats over age 3 have some degree of dental disease. Dental pain is often hidden behind “normal” eating and missed without an exam. At Trilogy, we perform full oral exams, anesthetic dental cleanings, full-mouth dental radiographs, and dental/oral surgery to diagnose and treat painful dental disease.

Kidney Disease: One of the most common illnesses in aging cats. Early kidney disease can often be found with bloodwork and urine testing before major symptoms appear, allowing us to start supportive care sooner.

Heart Disease: Many cats with heart disease show no obvious signs until it becomes serious. Routine exams and a proBNP test—a simple blood test that screens for heart stress—can help identify cats who may need further cardiac evaluation.

Diabetes: Increased thirst, weight loss, and appetite changes can be subtle in cats. Routine lab work can help catch diabetes early, and these tests can be run the same day.

Hyperthyroidism: Common in older cats and often missed early. Weight loss in senior cats is never considered normal aging. Increased appetite, vomiting, vocalizing, and behavior changes can all be signs.

Arthritis: Cats rarely limp like dogs. Arthritis often shows up as less jumping, hesitation, poor grooming, or behavior changes. Trilogy also offers Solensia, a once-monthly injection to help control arthritis pain and improve comfort and mobility. Corbin, pictured here is Dr. Davis’ 17.5 y/o cat who is doing aMEOWzing on Solensia!

At Trilogy Veterinary Medical Center, routine exams, bloodwork, urinalysis, dental evaluations, and advanced diagnostics help us catch disease early—when treatment can make the biggest difference.
