This post was made in SANDPOINT local forum. A good reason why we need to divert any nesting behavior for the geese at City Beach before they established their nest and started laying eggs.

What we are seeing so far...

"One morning while there, I spoke with Chris from the maintenance shop.
He told me he's been there 3 years and he's noticed significantly less geese strolling around recently since we started.
I've seen Patsy and Piper there a few times and they are a good team! That dog could probably handle the whole park by herself.
I think Spring time when the geese are looking to mate and lay will be an important time to get out there. But so far so good in my opinion."

------------------------------------------

"We’ve been to City Beach several times early and late morning and only once have we come across a very small flock of geese.
So we mostly just chase seagulls."

------------------------------------------

"We go very early. We have seen a few geese in front of Trinity that head for the water as we walk by. Otherwise no birds."

------------------------------------------

"Regretfully bowed out. Whisper was scared of the geese. Just had to laugh,. Brought everything back to Jennifer just had to laugh."

------------------------------------------

"Hi paw patrol friends!
We’ve been down a few times this past week in the morning (7-8am) and also noticed the numbers have gone down significantly and the p**p seems to be less noticeable. We have encountered a few flocks on both ends of the beach and when they see Sam coming they start squawking and fly into the water so his joy of chasing is reduced but he’s had a couple good runs at them but the geese seem to get the drill!

On a separate note regarding beach patrons—they seem to know about the program and are really complimentary. On two separate mornings this week I had people thank me for volunteering our time and helping to reduce the geese at the beach. One woman commented how cool she thought the program was and was really happy to see the city was thinking outside the box to try to solve the problem. I wanted to share because this compliment is really a big thanks to you Jason, Matt and the community resource officers that have been working hard on this program (I’m sure I’ve forgotten a few folks so please pass along!) "

"I too have observed fewer geese and less droppings. I do think the regular but unpredictable coverage is working."

“The geese here produce over 300 pounds of waste a day,” said Jason Welker, Sandpoint’s community planning and development director and the coordinator of the new program. “It’s disgusting.”

Today was the kick off meeting for Sandpoint's Goose Patrol dogs and their handlers. Seven teams in total to start.

Most teams will be out in early morning to head off the geese. Please be respectful of these very important teams doing their job to help clean up the goose problem at City Beach.

Per Sandpoint City Code 7-5-3(A), dogs are allowed off-leash for waterfowl control as part of city-sanctioned groups. Handlers must have an off-leash permit in their possession and ensure dogs are always under voice control. All waste must be promptly removed by the handlers.
