LOOKING TO BUY CHEAP FILL DIRT! or
YES, WE DO HAVE A POND…
…but we don’t want a pond, at least not there!
One benefit of the copious amounts of rain is that we now know for certain where the low spots are. Most are caused by high traffic, doggie digging, piggy rooting, and heavy hooves hanging out. We don’t have flowing or rising water, thank goodness. But these big puddles are no fun for anyone. There aren’t any animals standing in the water, save for the ducks, but it is not pleasant to have water where there should be no water. When it dries out a bit, I’ll be looking for affordable loads of clean fill dirt or topsoil to raise these areas. Let me know if you know someone with a dump-truck!!

I SHOULD’A KNOWN BETTER…
than to leave the Barnyard! I’m loving the rain but I don’t love rough country roads in a downpour. Home safe now, sigh.

BARNYARD BABIES!
Last week we had a young lady visit who also happens to be an award winning photographer. While she was here, she took some great pics of our residents. She shared them with us and I share them with you! Don’t forget that almost every animal in these photos is adoptable to a qualified, safe pet home.

WITH THE HELP OF OUR FRIENDS!!
Today was a busy but super productive day here at Barnyard Sanctuary. It was the kind of day that reminds me how blessed I am to have friends that make this Sanctuary possible. The Moench family donated, brought and unloaded three of the goats’ favorite big hay bales. Neighbor Brad came over with his super machine and passed out then moved, stacked, and stored 42 round bales. Mason helped on the ground with gates and removing baling netting. Our dear friends Cari, Brooks, and Damian brought their equipment and tractor and mowed and weed-whacked the roadway easement. They also knocked down and trimmed up the whole overgrown entry driveway and then shredded the entire new pasture! What a day! What a blessing! What a strong community we have! Love you guys so much!

WE’RE TRYING NOT TO BE AFRAID…
but we do want to be prepared!

The weather and the bugs have conspired to create a situation that is not only miserable and uncomfortable, but also dangerous. The regular old flies, ants, wasps, and fleas have come on in full force. Add to them the threat of NWS (New World Screwworm) and we are moved to ask for your help. We’ve updated our Amazon Wishlist with some very useful bug fighting products in addition to our usual asks. If you are able, please consider sending the Sanctuary an item or 2. We’d be ever so grateful. These items are also available at our local feed store and TSC. Please also SHARE. It’s free!

FINALLY!!
At long last, at age 8, the fig trees are having a good year. They are survivors, making it through heat, or freeze, drought or damp. This year the conditions favored fruit! I love them but take my share only after the birds have had their daily fill. Yummy

SUCH A SENSE OF HUMOR, MOTHER NATURE HAS!
The guys were loading the first 10 of our 30 round bales this morning. “Not so fast!” Big rain right on the hay field in Mathis. Poor Jim had to call me with the news. Only 6 loaded and delivered, but at least it’s a start! Es mejor que nada!!
