My biggest fear has happened. We are without power. When you're used to hearing 15,000 gallons of water per hour flowing through the house, when it suddenly stops it's quite the eerie feeling. Luckily we came prepared. First we set up a siphon to drain water, preventing the sump from overflowing and flooding the room. Second we fired up the generator. We're only running 2 pumps to circulate water and one light, but it'll keep everything stable.

An update to the mystery snails. The largest of the offspring are roughly 4-5mm in diameter. Growth seems to be increasing as they grow.

Negatives, all spawning activities have stopped, and water quality has become exponentially harder to maintain.

Something we have learned, that tends to be true in most cases. Animal colonies will only grow up to a sustainable size. There will be an explosion of population. Then resources, space, environmental balance all become compromised. The population will then dwindle until balance is reached and thats where it will maintain. We are in the dwindling down phase. I knew we would reach this point, but I did expect it to take longer. I am unable to get an estimate of total number of living snails as some of them are only 1-2mm at this time.

Next step? Regroup, contine to upgrade and improve.

Today, Onyx, Hank, Hulk, and we cant forget our courageous guard dog Koby all had some outdoor time. The guniea pigs were setup in an outdoor bottomless enclosure. Placed in a grassy area they loved it. I decided to let Onyx free roam he is super chill and not very fast. I originally was worried about Koby interacting with Onyx but they didnt bother each other at all. Enjoy the photo dump of our day. I did get a lot of video footage, but Facebook won't allow pages to post videos alongside pics. That just means that there will be a snake filled reel soon.

Here are our little in home animal sanctuary, we want to be more than just a safe place for animals to live out their lives. We want to offer the animals the best lives that we can. Whats the next step beyond a safe home and food?.... Enrichment. There are many ways to provide enrichment. I've been thinking about it for quite some time, now that its warm out. We aim to start providing outdoor time to our animals.

Hank and Hulk are the first ones to get this opportunity. They are a grazing animal and our local plants are a great source of nutrients for them. Ive been slipping in a little local flora into their feed so they are used to it by now.

An update on the mystery snails. Last night a snail way laying either the 7th or 8th clutch of eggs. They are spawning like crazy. In the first pic you can see from left to right. A baby snail, my index finger tip, a 3/4ths grown snail. These babies are tiny.

I do want to share that I am not sure of the fertile and survival rate of our snails, there should be well over 100 babies hatched, but ive only seen around 10 or so. They are tiny and there is plenty of room for them to hide so only time will tell.

When i first acquired the snails i decided to put then in my tank I use to grow water lettuce. Its a 10 gallon tank and there is zero filtration in this tank. That was no problem for 6 snails. However if 100s of babies are born the water will quickly become toxic. So I made the decision to add this tank to my main system, instead of 10 gallon its now part of a continuously cycling 2500+ gallon system. The very last pic is part of the overflow unit I built for this tank.

Also included a few pics of the latest batch of bristlenose plecos born. I've seen a few that are very red in color. Looking forward to continue the breeding process to see how many varieties we can discover.
