Titus recently completed a 4-week Board & Train Program, and I couldn't be more proud of the progress he's made!
One of Titus' biggest training goals was helping him feel more comfortable and less reactive when hearing knocks at the door, the doorbell ringing, and people entering the home. Before training, these situations would trigger intense barking, jumping, and throwing himself at the door. When guests entered the house, he would continue barking to the point that his family didn't feel comfortable having him out when visitors came over.
To help Titus, I spent a lot of time desensitizing him to door knocks and doorbells, as well as practicing people coming in and out of the house repeatedly so he could learn that these events aren't something to worry about.
In this video, you'll see Titus demonstrating a stay away from the door while the doorbell rings. He remains calm, quiet, and composed with no barking or overstimulation. Even when the other dogs in the house begin barking at the sound of the doorbell, Titus stays focused and relaxed. He holds his stay until released, then happily approaches the guest, greeting them calmly and allowing petting while remaining neutral and composed.
Training isn't about simply stopping a behavior, it's about teaching a dog what to do instead and helping them feel more confident in situations they previously found difficult. Titus has come such a long way during his Board & Train, and I'm incredibly proud of all the hard work he put in. Way to go, Titus! 🐾
