Well we have officially switched from snake and lizard season to salamander and newt season. Below we have a juvenile arboreal (single) and a juvenile and young adult yellow eyed ensatina.

Fun fact: Arboreal salamanders are called arboreal salamanders, because they are salamanders that are arboreal. They are known to live in the redwood canopy up to 150’ in the air. This one and 100% of the other ones we’ve found have been less than 1’ off the ground.

More salamander facts to come.

Fun trip to the Oakland zoo today, stumbled upon them feeding the wolves, 4 year old caught the smallest blue belly I’ve ever seen ( on the playground no less), found a bushtit nest.

Ps. When you yell over to your wife “hey, it’s a bushtit nest” in a crowded zoo, you get a lot of strange looks.

I made this page as a meeting/ discussion place for kids and parents of kids interested in reptiles/amphibian/bugs. This includes those with pets reptiles, those thinking about getting there first reptile, and those who just like getting out in nature and seeing what kinds of animals they can find under a rock.

About me, my name is Ross I’m a Bay Area native living up on the coastal mountains of the peninsula. Last year we bought my soon to be 4 year old a bearded dragon named spike featured in our background photo. We also have a couple jumping spiders and go out almost daily to see what animals we can find.
