Lenity Vet Specialists *** COVID-19 PROTOCOL ***

Because Lenity is a medical facility, our office was carefully designed to prevent the spread of infectious disease.

Privately owned specialty and emergency hospital offering veterinary orthopedics, surgical oncology, internal medicine, laparoscopic/soft tissue surgeries, anesthesiology, regenerative medicine, blood bank services (+ more!) The ventilation and airflow systems were even planned to effectively prevent the spread of airborne pathogens throughout the facility. Because our ventilation system is divide

d up into separate zones, air is not exchanged between our lobby, exam rooms, treatment area, and surgery wing. There are also individual air filters in each exam room. Our staff members abide by CDC recommendations regarding proper and frequent handwashing and the use of hand sanitizer. Staff members always wash their hands between patients. The waiting room, exam room, surface, and equipment are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized between patients using products that kill coronaviruses and a multitude of other patients. We are also wiping down door handles, computer keyboards and mice, countertops, etc. before and after each visit or use. At this time, we are asking clients to call us from the parking lot upon arrival. This allows us to wipe down the front door and allow them to enter an empty reception area before being escorted into an exam room. Hand sanitizer and disposable tissues are available to both our clients and our staff. So far, we have not seen any patients, clients, or staff members showing signs of COVID-19. However, we are asking any staff members who feel unwell to stay home. If we have any concerns that our facility has become contaminated, we will alert our clients right away.

Not all pets tolerate heat the same way. ☀️🐾

Certain dogs and cats are at a much higher risk for heat-related illness — even during temperatures that may not feel dangerously hot to people.

Higher-risk pets include:

• Flat-faced breeds like Bulldogs, Pugs, Boston Terriers, and Persian cats, who have narrower airways and struggle to cool themselves efficiently
• Senior pets, whose bodies may have a harder time regulating temperature
• Puppies and kittens, who can overheat more quickly during activity
• Overweight pets, since excess body fat traps heat and increases strain on the heart and lungs
• Pets with chronic medical conditions such as heart disease, respiratory disease, or arthritis
• Thick-coated breeds, especially during warm or humid weather

Heat stress can escalate quickly and become life-threatening without warning. Understanding your pet’s individual risk factors is one of the most important parts of summer safety.

Pets can overheat much faster than people — and heat stroke can become life-threatening in minutes. ☀️🐾

Unlike humans, dogs and cats can’t cool themselves efficiently through sweating. That means warm cars, afternoon walks, poor airflow, or even playtime in the sun can quickly become dangerous.

Watch for early warning signs like:
• Heavy panting
• Excessive drooling
• Bright red gums
• Weakness or confusion
• Vomiting or difficulty walking

Flat-faced breeds, senior pets, overweight pets, and animals with heart or lung conditions are especially vulnerable during warmer weather.

One of the most important summer safety reminders:
🚫 Never leave pets in parked cars — even for a few minutes.

Providing shade, cool water, limiting midday activity, and recognizing symptoms early can make all the difference.

If your pet shows signs of heat stress, seek veterinary care immediately.

Why Medicine Works Best When It’s Calm, Planned, and Proactive

The best medicine is rarely delivered in chaos.

It happens in controlled environments, with time to think critically, interpret data accurately, and make intentional decisions. It happens when patients are stable, diagnostics are clear, and care is guided—not rushed.

Proactive medicine allows us to identify problems earlier, intervene more precisely, and reduce the need for reactive, high-stress care.

Calm is not just a feeling—it is a clinical advantage.

At Lenity, our approach is rooted in thoughtful, evidence-based care that prioritizes patient stability, clarity, and long-term outcomes.

Because better medicine starts before something becomes urgent.

If you’re ready to take a more proactive approach to your pet’s health, contact Lenity at 650-513-6660 to schedule a visit.

Pain Is Not Always Vocalized

In veterinary medicine, silence does not equal comfort.

Many animals are biologically wired to mask pain. What we see instead are subtle changes—reduced activity, altered posture, decreased appetite, or shifts in behavior that are easy to overlook.

These are not personality changes. They are clinical signals.

By the time pain is obvious, it is often advanced.

Recognizing early indicators allows for timely intervention, improved comfort, and better long-term outcomes.

Pain doesn’t always sound like distress. Often, it looks like quiet change.

Memorial Day

Today, we honor those who served—and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Service takes many forms. In veterinary medicine, it means showing up every day to protect health, relieve suffering, and support the bond between people and their animals.

It’s a quiet kind of service—but a meaningful one.

We are grateful for the opportunity to care, and to serve our patients and their families.

Early Musculoskeletal Changes Are Often Misinterpreted

Stiffness after rest, hesitation with stairs, or a gradual decline in play are often labeled as “normal aging.” In many cases, they are not.

These subtle changes are frequently early indicators of musculoskeletal disease. Conditions like osteoarthritis begin with low-grade inflammation and cartilage degeneration, altering joint mechanics long before obvious limping appears. Patients adapt quietly, shifting weight or limiting movement, which can delay recognition.

By the time signs are unmistakable, the disease process is often more advanced.

Identifying these changes early allows for more precise intervention, better pain control, and improved long-term mobility.

What looks behavioral is often physiologic—and clinically meaningful.

Have you noticed any subtle changes in your pet’s movement or activity?
