The Osierlea Story
Osierlea Dressage is a unique Equestrian Training Facility based in San Juan Bautista, California that has been a cornerstone of Dressage (Art and Sport) for over 40 years. It is the home of the CDS and numerous equestrian programs that Elizabeth Searle and Jeffrey Moore brought to the United States, based in the European equestrian disciplines.
Osierlea is home to Jeffrey Ashton Moore, with Laurel Bruun directing the facility. Both Jeff and Laurel are active USEF Judges, and both have been instrumental in the creation of and direction of the USDF Glossary of Terms and training systems. Both remain directional in the USEF and FEI international forums.
Training at Osierlea incorporates horse biomechanics, rider biomechanics and the psychology of learning from both a rider and equine perspective. An early advocate of Biomechanics, Jeff and Laurel are longtime teachers of how Rider position effects and affects their horse through the levels. Their training of horses is systematically tuned to how horses work within a ‘herd of two’ and how they learn evolutionarily.
Elizabeth Searle brought the KWPN (Dutch Warmblood) Breeding program to the United States and Oiserlea has bred top dressage-bred horses for 30 years and sponsored the Breeders Futurity classes as well as Oiserlea Award programs. Three to four foals a year are produced from a select program headed by Laurel Bruun (“R” Judge) and Barn Manager.
Riders are able to schedule lesson times with Laurel Bruun, and Jeff Moore, based on their clinic and travel schedules. Both Laurel and Jeff are available as Clinicians, with a variety of topics that are popular. “The Power Of Position” was the 2018 Spring Conference topic, and will return for a “Part II” due to it’s popularity.
Other topics include: “Contact for the FEI Horse”, and “Collection; Reins and Leg Usage”, “Lounging and In-Hand Work”.
