ACTION ALERT

Glow-in-the-dark bunnies?! Hypoallergenic dogs and cats?

UNETHICAL.

Animals are not inanimate commodities. Please read and take action.

Back in the spring, we shared an important alert about a troubling trend in pet breeding, from the Wired article "Your Next Pet Could Be a Glowing Rabbit". It's not science fiction; gene-editing technology is being used to create glow-in-the-dark rabbits and hypoallergenic cats and dogs. This isn't innovation—it's exploitation. Animals are not novelties or aesthetic trends. They deserve respect, not genetic manipulation for human amusement.

That's why Assembly Member Castillo is now putting forward AB 1382, the Ethics Over Aesthetics Act, sponsored by Social Compassion in Legislation. The bill will prohibit the sale of animals that have been genetically engineered for cosmetic purposes.

If you took action in the spring, thank you. If you haven't yet, we're urging you to speak up now. Visit socialcompassioninlegislation.org/how-to-help, choose AB 1382, and fill out your information to have a support letter sent to your representative on your behalf by Social Compassion in Legislation. Let's stand together and say NO to designer animals.

UPDATE: BONO BLUE

On Monday, Bono Blue was seen by Dr Silpa, at EAVC, for emergency treatment for the abscess under his left eye. He had a CT scan, x-rays, and bloodwork. His x-rays and bloodwork were pretty much the same as previously, which is to say, not too great, but no worse.

The CT scan confirmed our suspicion of a large abscess located behind his left eye (a retrobulbar abscess). The scan also
revealed significant underlying dental abnormalities and showed fluid and tissue buildup in his left middle ear, indicating a
concurrent infection there. **CT scan has also been sent to the exotics radiologist for a review.**

Dr Silpa was able to marsupialize the abscess and get a lot of the pus out, and we sent a sample of the pi’s in for culture and sensitivity. The fact that this is a retrobulbar abscess is NOT great news. Because Bono is frail, we are concerned that he would not do well with the surgery to handle this, so going forward we will be attempting to handle it medically, as best we can. Many thanks to Dr Silpa for seeing him first thing Monday and for getting this taken care of immediately (We love Dr S!) 🩵❤️

This is a photo of him resting today. His eye looks significantly less angry and seems to be healing well. His appetite has improved some.

Poor little Bono has so many health issues. Please send him strength and love. He needs it. And know that at Zooh Corner, we will always do the best we can for him.🩵
