The Brussels Griffon is a lively, sturdy little fellow who was originally used by coachmen in the 1800’s as ratters in the stables. No longer serving his original function, the Brussels Griffon has evolved into a most intriguing looking, alert and active companion.
Are you interested in this breed? The OFA, working with the American Brussels Griffon Association, recommends the following basic health screening tests for all breeding stock:
- Patellar Luxation (minimum age of 2)
- ACVO Eye Exam
Optional but recommended:
- Hip Dysplasia (OFA)
- Autoimmune thyroiditis
- Progressive Retinal Atrophy (Electroretinography)
Dogs meeting these basic health screening requirements are issued Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) numbers. For potential puppy buyers, CHIC certification is a good indicator the breeder responsibly factors good health into their selection criteria.
