βοΈTHE BACKSTORY!!! Romeo was found hiding in a sewer in the Presidio, San Francisco.
Presidio neighbor Alex and her son spotted the sheltering cat spotted kitty going in and out of the sewer 'for some time' and looked abandoned, skinny, and lost and posted on NextDoor on June 23. They were worried the cat would succumb to the many coyotes living in the Presidio. Another kind neighbor, Alexandra was found by trapper Roxanne when she flyered and knocked on doors. SF Trapper Paula Kotakis dropped everything to try to trap him initially but he was a no show. Roxanne trained Alexandra on the use of her trap and a few days later successfully trapped him. (Paula resumed her many trapping projects)
Paula scanned Romeo and took him into her loving care for the next few nights. Romeo was malnourished, frightened, and traumatized trying to survive in a sewer after being an indoor kitty. Paula called the microchip registry and they notified the guardian, "Charles T." Charles did not respond. Paula kept Romeo under her loving care for a few nights and then took him to SFACC on 6/28. SFACC again called the guardian while she was there and Charles said 'he had a lot going on at the moment' and again, didn't show up to claim 'Beno' (previous name) Charles always lived in Castro Valley and pretended he had no idea how the cat ended up in the Presidio. I believe Charles DUMPED and abandoned Romeo. π π‘
On 7/4 Romeo failed ACC's behavioral assessment (like MOST scared indoor only cats do). SFACC said he hissed and cowered in a corner when they tried to pet him. Nadine told me how Volunteers at ACC, said they would pet him and he loved chin scratches and shared a video of the volunteers petting him. Senta kept following up! After contacting ACC again, they stated 'Beano' would be sent to the Oakland Animal Shelter since that's where he came from. At this point, lovely Maria Conion from Give Me Shelter said she would take him in if we could foster him for short term. I was like YESSSS let's go get him!!! Senta and I went to SFACC to collect him and I as I was driving him home he meowed the sweetest little meow. I told him that everything was OK and that heβd only know love going forward and heβd never go hungry again!
At home, After a few visits in the bathroom, he immediately gave in to pets and boy oh boy did he start to purrrrrrr. After decompressing for 24 hours he emerged from the carrier, used the litter box like a gentleman, and longed for pets and love. Heβs so gentle and sweet, loves pets and cuddles, belly rubs and face kisses! He is seriously the PURRRRFECT kitty! β€οΈ
β€οΈ Maria Conlon (Give Me Shelter) spoiled him for several weeks in her care. I just KNEW the right person would come along and thatβs when Jennifer Plotke played kitty-matchmaker and told her dear neighbor Anna Kuo all about Romeo. Anna applied via GIVE ME SHELTER and when she came to meet him ... letβs just say it was LOVE at first sight!!! Romeo and Anna truly deserve each other. Both are so sweet and lovely... He could not have luckier to land such a caring mommy. Theyβve been inseparable ever since!!!
β€οΈ π Thank you kind neighbors for saving Romeo's life! There are so many lost and abandoned cats that need our help to give them a 2nd chance. If you see a scared cat, chances are kitty needs help. Taking immediate action is KEY.
