onder for nature and its inhabitants through unstructured exploration and learning. Fun and educational `interactive encounters’ are available for everyone to learn and foster an appreciation for animals, nature, sustainable farming and the ecosystem. Our Vision

In our increasingly digital-dependent and urbanized world, we are loosing touch with nature. With this in mind, we believe the Children’s Nature Retreat offers a rich connection to the earth, its plants and animals. We allow guests to step away from their fast pace life, reduce stress levels and find their balance in nature.

We never imagined we’d be writing another post like this so soon. Our hearts are shattered in million of pieces as we share that we lost our precious ostrich Malibu late yesterday afternoon in a tragic accident. She came to the farm 9 years ago…
After losing Louie just the day before, this feels almost unbearable. Malibu was recovering well from her soft tissue injury and was supposed to be released today, when she caught herself between a corral panel and the fence and suffered a fatal neck injury trying to free herself.
Some of you may wonder how this could happen twice in two days. The painful truth about sanctuary work is that sometimes loss comes in waves. These weren’t related incidents - just cruel timing that has left our entire team grieving.
Malibu was so kind and gentle. She had been taking her meds morning and night for over a month like champ and was patiently recovering from her limp. She deserved so much more time with us.
We’re taking steps to prevent similar accidents and leaning on each other during this incredibly difficult time. Thank you for understanding that caring for vulnerable animals means facing heartbreak, even when we do everything we can to keep them safe.
We find comfort knowing that both Louie and Malibu felt safe and loved during their time with us. While our hearts are broken, we hold onto the joy they brought to our lives and the peace they found here at the sanctuary. 💔🕊️💔

Louie left this earth too soon… Our hearts are shattered 💔Yesterday morning, we found him having neurological symptoms and nothing could be done to save him. He had not been himself lately and was under veterinary care but we were not prepared… He was loved and cherished by so many… Rest in Peace beautiful boy 🐴❤️🐴 You will forever be in our hearts.

Today, we are excited to announce our new name and brand identity - Alpine Acres Sanctuary Farm™.

The new name reflects the nonprofit’s primary work, as well as highlighting its regenerative farm, while also best communicating its location.
While this process has been challenging for our small team, we’ve discovered that sometimes unexpected detours lead to wonderful destinations!
We’re absolutely thrilled to introduce our new identity: Alpine Acres Sanctuary Farm...Two missions, one heart: Animal sanctuary and sustainable farming in San Diego County – a name that we now realize captures who we are even more perfectly than before.
