🦟 Beware cat owners! Even though cats are atypical hosts for heartworms, they can still cause major health issues.

Within 75 to 90 days after a cat is bitten by an infected mosquito, heartworm larvae can reach the pulmonary arteries, resulting in heartworm-associated respiratory disease (HARD). Signs of HARD include coughing, increased respiratory effort, and vomiting that resemble feline asthma.
