🏅What a great weekend we had coaching the Sweetwater Farms show team at our Hunter&Jumper show : lots of progress, ribbons and fun! I'm lucky to be teaching a great group of young riders.

The Pony Club is a fantastic way for children and young adults to develop their horsemanship! I am learning all about the USPC syllabus which differs slightly to the PCUK's, by for example offering different track options for certifications, like the Hunter Seat Equitation. (Did I know much about 'Hunter Seat Equitation' before moving to the US?! I did not!)

🌟 I currently have the pleasure of coaching a group of Sweetwater Farms PC members towards their D certifications!

We're highlighting our certification track options, moving on to Hunter Seat Equitation! Hunter Seat Equitation was added as a local certification in 2012! Available starting at the D-2 through the C-2 certification, this track transitions into Show Jumping at the national level.

Today on the menu : Flat work, speed round practice for the show team and we got creative with some drill ride design!

Today was a scorcher in southern California! ☀️🔥
I registered 105°F, this is 40.5°C for my fellow Europeans (yes, I still have to google this and don't even get me started on the inches/ft situation!).

So we rode early, kept it light, and hosed off the horses.

💧TO SCRAPE OR NOT TO SCRAPE?
The information on (not) scraping the horses has been out for a few years, with scientific evidence to back it up. It has been incorporated in the BHS and PCUK syllabus and is in the FEI recommendations.

If you are interested in learning why scraping the water off the horses has no benefit, and in fact can be detrimental in the heat, or if you want to learn more generally about horses thermoregulation I encourage you to read Dr David Marlin posts.
