Little Buddies owner Sean has been surrounded by dogs his whole life, starting at the age of five when he formed relationship with the neighbor’s Bird Dogs. His family has always had a dog (or two) in it, starting with Ranger and loving him for a lucky 18 years. When Sean moved to California from the Northeast, he adopted two brother-and-sister corgi-mix rescues and quickly fell in love. Sean’s commitment to his work shows with how he involves himself in each animal's well-being.

If you’re a resident of the City of San Diego, we urgently need your voice. Please support San Diego Humane Society by submitting a public comment ahead of the City Council meeting tomorrow, April 21. You can help ensure San Diego remains a city that protects animals, values public safety and inspires compassion.

San Diego Humane Society is facing a proposed 20% funding cut — totaling $3.5 million — in Mayor Todd Gloria’s draft budget for the City of San Diego. This reduction threatens to severely impact our services within the city, jeopardizing public safety and putting vulnerable animals at risk. This is not just a budget issue — it’s a matter of safety, compassion and responsibility. Without these funds, there would be:

No response to animal cruelty or neglect.
No enforcement of rabies and public health mandates.
No patrols for off-leash or aggressive animals in parks.
No response for pets running loose.
No investigations of dog bites or dangerous animals.
Fewer homeless animals sheltered and adopted.

If you’re a City of San Diego resident, we’re asking you to submit a public comment in opposition to this proposed cut. It takes only a few moments to submit a public comment through the City’s website at sandiego.gov/city-clerk/agenda-comment-form. Below is a sample you can use or personalize. Please act now to submit your comment before the council meeting tomorrow, Monday, April 21. (Note: In the field for Agenda Item Number, list 200 and select “Oppose.”)

Sample Comment: My name is [Your Name], and I am a resident of the City of San Diego. I urge you to oppose the proposed $3.5 million cut to San Diego Humane Society’s animal services contract. This reduction would eliminate essential services that keep our community safe. A budget cut of this magnitude could have devastating consequences for the pets and people who call San Diego home. These services are public safety — and they save lives. I support maintaining full funding for San Diego Humane Society and ask City Council to do the same.
