‼️Important Reminder: Chocolate Is Toxic to Pets‼️

This Valentine’s Day, while we enjoy our chocolates, please remember that chocolate is toxic to dogs and cats. It contains theobromine and caffeine, both of which can cause serious health issues in pets, even in small amounts. The severity of symptoms depends on the type and amount of chocolate ingested, but common signs of chocolate poisoning include:
- Vomiting and diarrhea
- Increased heart rate
- Tremors or seizures
- Restlessness or hyperactivity
- In severe cases, it can lead to death
Dark chocolate and baking chocolate contain the highest levels of theobromine, making them
especially dangerous. If you suspect your pet has ingested chocolate, contact your veterinarian immediately. It’s always better to be safe and get professional advice early. Please keep your pets safe this Valentine’s Day and avoid any chocolate treats around them.🍫❌

We are very excited to see everyone at our upcoming BBQ Open House this Saturday, January 18th from 10 - 2.  We want to celebrate so many things with our community.  LJVH has a new Medical Director, Zach Zimmermann, a La Jolla resident and friend to all.  Our other doctors will be here to greet you and our LA fire volunteers are excited to share their experiences with you.  The accomplishment of our LA fire donation run would not have been anywhere near the success it was had our community not embraced the effort.  Our technician, Timber Bossard, was able to assist in the relocation efforts of many pets out of the area.  Dr. Rabines was also very instrumental in those evacuation efforts, as well as, one of the drivers of all of the donations we received.  Dr. Pearson drove a van of donations and was able to jump right into surgery proceedures at an overwhelmed shelter near Pasadena.  Please come by to say hello and enjoy some food and games.

Meet Freya 🐾❤️, a sweet 6-year-old Doberman with a heart as big as her paws. Freya’s journey hasn’t been easy, but her story took a beautiful turn when a kind and generous foster family welcomed her into their home. 🏡✨

This amazing foster isn’t just providing love and a safe space—she’s also committed to ensuring Freya gets the medical care she needs to get back to full health. Once Freya is feeling her best, she’ll be ready to find her forever home.

Introducing “The Giving Box” at La Jolla Vet Hospital!
We’re excited to launch ‘The Giving Box”, a cash donation box located in our front lobby next to the smiling faces that greet you as you walk through the door! All donations collected will go directly to Project Street Vet, an organization led by Dr. Kwane Stewart, supporting pets and owners facing homelessness and housing vulnerability.

Meet Larry Lee Gold, a proud U.S. army veteran, friend, athlete, artist, son, father, husband and long time animal lover. Larry graciously crossed the rainbow bridge in his hometown of Bellevue, Nebraska in October of 2022. A special donation has been placed into The Giving Box in honor of Larry’s death. Known for his gentle, loving spirit, Larry brought kindness into every part of his life, and we’re grateful to honor his memory in a way that supports animals and their families in need.
