In a step forward in saving the remaining shark species left on this planet, Air New Zealand has just banned the transport of shark fins from their flights. New Zealand is one of the countries largely responsible for the processing and transporting of shark fins. Given that New Zealand has a "clean, green" marketing scheme going, the fact that shark finning has not been banned from New Zealand waters is a giant misrepresentation of going green. "Representatives from seven of the eight political parties in Parliament signed a pledge in November last year committing their support for a law change to ban shark finning in New Zealand. However, the National Party refused to sign the pledge"-wildlifeextra.com
The fact that airlines are staring to ban the transport of fins is a great step in the right direction. Many Asian Airlines have also adopted this ban. Keep the fight going and sign any pledges you can find. The more people that see the devastation of 100 million sharks killed a year, the more people will make their opinion heard.
