Raquel's Senior Dog Bed & Breakfast

Raquel's Senior Dog Bed & Breakfast San Diego’s trusted senior dog boarding & daycare. A calm, safe place for senior pups to feel comfortable and cared for. Hi, I'm Raquel!

We provide specialized care for older dogs, including boarding, daycare, walks, house sitting, and home or Airbnb drop-ins. I've been living in San Diego since May 2017 and am originally from the Bay Area. My husband and I recently bought a house in the College area and love meeting neighbors through their pets. I've grown up having multiple dogs and learned the many responsibilities of caring for

older dogs at an early age. We are on our 4th senior dog adoption and currently have 1 senior dog who is very calm and mainly enjoys sleeping and watching me eat. I also have a 14-year-old cat named Puppy who has grown up with dogs her whole life. My dog gets along great with other calm dogs and cats. I have taken care of senior dogs, dogs with special needs (blind, deaf, incontinence, injury), dogs recovering from surgery, and have experience applying/administering/injecting medication if your dog needs that special care. Your dog will most definitely be showered with love, cuddles (if they like), and a warm cozy bed. Feel at ease during your busy days or while you're on vacation with multiple daily updates, photos and videos of your furry loved one. I do my best to learn about and stick to your pet's daily schedule to make sure they are as comfortable as possible. Trust that leaving an older dog in my care is possible for you and that they will receive the extra attention they deserve. Both my husband and I work from home so we have lots of time to hang out with the dogs, take them on our daily walks, give them treats, make sure they take their meds and feed them. On the weekends we don't leave the house for more than 4 hours at a time and make sure that the dogs have used the bathroom before we leave. The pups at home are allowed to roam free throughout our home and the backyard. There are dog beds in every room so they'll be sure to find a good spot to rest. Most of the time I'll let bigger dogs with higher energy run around in my yard to release some energy or take them on long walks (30-45 mins). I also have different areas of my yard to be able to separate dogs if needed. If I were in your home, I would make sure that things are kept neat and how you left them, follow your directions and be respectful of your property. I will treat your home and your pets the same way I treat mine; with love and respect.

When the temperatures rise, keeping senior dogs comfortable becomes a top priority. ☀️🐾

One of the first signs that a dog is getting too warm is excessive panting, especially when they seem short of breath or can't settle down even after finding a place to rest. Every dog handles the heat a little differently, which is why we pay close attention to what each dog needs throughout the day.

At Senior Dog BnB, you'll find fresh water available at all times, plenty of shady spots outdoors, cool indoor spaces with air conditioning, and lots of options for dogs to choose where they're most comfortable.

Some dogs, like our friend Nala the Samoyed, prefer to park themselves directly under the AC. Others, like Bundy, enjoy soaking up a little sunshine before moving back into the shade. Many of our senior guests love spending time in the garage where the cool cement floor helps them stay comfortable during warmer afternoons.

One thing we've learned over the years is that there's no one-size-fits-all approach. Every dog has their own preferences, and part of our job is making sure they have safe, comfortable options throughout the day.

When the weather heats up, comfort, supervision, and hydration matter even more, especially for senior dogs. ❤️

POV: When you finally find the spot you couldn't reach. 😆🐾

Let's be honest... we've all been there. Whether you're a dog, a cat, or a human, there is nothing more satisfying than finally scratching that impossible-to-reach itch.

This sweet pup was enjoying one of our house visits and clearly found the perfect spot for some relief. Mission accomplished. 😂

While boarding and daycare are wonderful options for many pets, they're not the right fit for every dog or cat. Some pets are happiest staying in their own environment, following their normal routine, and getting one-on-one attention from a familiar caregiver.

That's why house visits are such an important part of what we do. Whether it's a quick potty break, medication, meals, playtime, cuddles, or helping your pet scratch that hard-to-reach itch, these visits provide comfort and companionship while you're away.

If you've been considering house visits for your dog or cat, I'd love to schedule a meet and greet and learn more about your pet's needs. Send me a message and let's chat. 🐶🐱💛

Meet Cindy. 💛🐾

Cindy is a 10-year-old Chihuahua with a very clear set of boundaries, and honestly, we respect it.

Her mom adopted her as a senior, and since then Cindy has perfected the art of living life exactly the way she wants. She gets along well with the other dogs, but she's not interested in joining the crowd. She prefers having her own little space, her own cozy hideaway, and plenty of uninterrupted nap time.

In fact, she loves sleeping under blankets so much that we've basically given her a private suite at the BnB. Around here, we call it "Cindy's Room." 😂

She's not much of a cuddler, doesn't care for being carried unless absolutely necessary, and she'll definitely let you know if you're invading her personal space. But she's also a sweet girl who happily eats her meals, listens when it's time to go potty, and quietly goes about her day.

Cindy is a total mama's girl... although lately she's been showing a little favoritism toward Marcus since he's been the one bringing her food. We can't really blame her. Food is a powerful love language. 🍽️❤️

Senior dogs come with their own unique personalities, preferences, and routines. One of our favorite things about caring for them is learning exactly what makes each one feel safe, comfortable, and at home.

For Cindy, that's a cozy blanket, her own space, and a peaceful place to nap the day away. 💤

Our senior dogs aren’t usually trying to do backflips chasing a hose or running laps around the yard all day.

In our experience, most senior dogs prefer a calmer, more comfortable environment, especially during the warmer months.

That’s why we keep the AC running inside, provide plenty of soft places to rest, and create extra shady areas outdoors alongside our cabanas for dogs who enjoy relaxing outside.

We let each dog choose what makes them comfortable. Some prefer soaking up a little sunshine, while others are happiest stretched out in the cool air indoors.

If your senior dog prefers a slower pace and a more relaxed environment, we’d love to welcome them to the BnB.

Not every pet is a daycare dog, and that's okay. 🐾💛

One of the things we've learned over the years is that every pet has different needs. Some dogs love spending the day with a group of friends, while others are happiest staying in the comfort of their own home.

That's where our house visit services come in.

Before we ever schedule a house visit, we start with a meet and greet in your home. This gives us the opportunity to meet your pet in their own environment, learn their routine, find out where their food, medications, and supplies are kept, and understand exactly what kind of care they need.

Just as importantly, it gives your pet a chance to get to know us before we show up for a visit. By the time we return, we're already a familiar face instead of a stranger walking into their space.

Many of our house visit clients have pets that prefer one-on-one attention, don't enjoy daycare environments, or simply have schedules where a visit during the day makes more sense than boarding or daycare.

Our goal is always the same: to make sure your pet feels safe, comfortable, and cared for while you're away.

If you're considering house visits for your dog or cat, we'd love to meet you and learn more about your pet's routine. Send us a message to schedule a meet and greet. 🐶🐱

One of the reasons many families trust us with their senior dogs is because we're prepared for the things that can happen as dogs age.

We occasionally care for dogs who are prone to seizures, and one of the biggest reasons they come to us is because we provide a calm, low-stimulation environment. For many senior dogs, reducing stress and excitement can help minimize seizure triggers.

But sometimes, despite everyone's best efforts, seizures can still happen.

If a dog experiences a seizure while in our care, our first priority is making sure they're safe. We stay by their side, make sure they're away from anything that could cause injury, and closely monitor what's happening. We also try to record the episode so the owner and veterinarian can review it later. That video can provide valuable information about what the seizure looked like and how long it lasted.

We communicate with owners immediately and keep them informed every step of the way.

This is one of the reasons we never leave dogs unattended. There is always someone here watching, monitoring, and caring for them. Senior dogs can experience changes as they age, including seizures, cognitive decline, and doggy dementia, and we want to make sure they have support when they need it most.

While seizures can be scary to witness, our goal is always the same: keep the dog safe, stay calm, and provide the attentive care they deserve. ❤️🐾

Content day at the BnB always brings a little extra excitement. 🐾📸

The dogs somehow know something different is happening. Suddenly everyone wants to investigate the camera, sniff the microphone, follow Liz around, and make sure they're included in whatever is going on.

When we're filming a Senior Dog of the Week feature, keeping just one dog in the frame is almost impossible. The moment one pup starts getting attention, the rest decide it's their turn too. 😂

You'll find dogs curled up at our feet, climbing into laps, photobombing interviews, sneaking in kisses, and doing their best to secure their own 15 minutes of fame. And honestly, we wouldn't have it any other way.

One of the reasons we love working with Liz is because she embraces the chaos. She doesn't mind being surrounded by curious noses, surprise cuddles, or a dozen dogs trying to inspect her equipment. For the pups, it's a fun break from the usual routine. For us, it's a reminder of just how much personality fills every corner of the BnB.

Swipe through for a few behind-the-scenes moments from our latest content day. 💛🐶
