Raquel's Senior Dog Bed & Breakfast

Raquel's Senior Dog Bed & Breakfast San Diego’s trusted senior dog boarding & daycare. A calm, safe place for senior pups to feel comfortable and cared for. Hi, I'm Raquel!

We provide specialized care for older dogs, including boarding, daycare, walks, house sitting, and home or Airbnb drop-ins. I've been living in San Diego since May 2017 and am originally from the Bay Area. My husband and I recently bought a house in the College area and love meeting neighbors through their pets. I've grown up having multiple dogs and learned the many responsibilities of caring for

older dogs at an early age. We are on our 4th senior dog adoption and currently have 1 senior dog who is very calm and mainly enjoys sleeping and watching me eat. I also have a 14-year-old cat named Puppy who has grown up with dogs her whole life. My dog gets along great with other calm dogs and cats. I have taken care of senior dogs, dogs with special needs (blind, deaf, incontinence, injury), dogs recovering from surgery, and have experience applying/administering/injecting medication if your dog needs that special care. Your dog will most definitely be showered with love, cuddles (if they like), and a warm cozy bed. Feel at ease during your busy days or while you're on vacation with multiple daily updates, photos and videos of your furry loved one. I do my best to learn about and stick to your pet's daily schedule to make sure they are as comfortable as possible. Trust that leaving an older dog in my care is possible for you and that they will receive the extra attention they deserve. Both my husband and I work from home so we have lots of time to hang out with the dogs, take them on our daily walks, give them treats, make sure they take their meds and feed them. On the weekends we don't leave the house for more than 4 hours at a time and make sure that the dogs have used the bathroom before we leave. The pups at home are allowed to roam free throughout our home and the backyard. There are dog beds in every room so they'll be sure to find a good spot to rest. Most of the time I'll let bigger dogs with higher energy run around in my yard to release some energy or take them on long walks (30-45 mins). I also have different areas of my yard to be able to separate dogs if needed. If I were in your home, I would make sure that things are kept neat and how you left them, follow your directions and be respectful of your property. I will treat your home and your pets the same way I treat mine; with love and respect.

May gray has officially taken over San Diego ☁️🐾

And honestly… the dogs are fully embracing it.

The gloomy mornings lately have meant slower starts to the day, extra naps, sleepy cuddles, and lots of cozy moments around the house. We’ve had pups curled up in fluffy beds, sharing blankets with their friends, snuggling on the couch, and completely knocked out with their little tongues sticking out 😭💛

Some mornings are quieter than others here at Senior Dog BnB.
No chaos. No overstimulation. Just senior dogs feeling safe enough to fully relax.

And we’re definitely not complaining about all the extra snuggles lately 🐶

There’s something really special about watching senior dogs settle in so comfortably. The sleepy eyes, the tiny snores, the way they find their favorite little spots around the house… It’s one of our favorite parts of what we do.

May gray = cozy season at the BnB ☁️

POV: you found the cutest little cafe for dogs in San Diego ☕🐾

This past week we got to visit and it was such a fun experience. What originally started as a dog grooming business has now expanded into a coffee shop where humans can grab delicious coffee drinks while their furry friends enjoy treats from their own dog menu.

They serve adorable dog-friendly items like mini pizzas and tamales, and the coffee for humans is just as good. They even make drinks with homemade syrups and serve some in cookie cups.

One of the coolest parts is that you can get your dog groomed right next door while you hang out at the cafe, but you also don’t need a grooming appointment to stop by and enjoy the space.

What really makes this place special though is the mission behind it. A portion of every drink sold helps support rescue foundations and shelters in Tijuana where so many dogs are still looking for homes.

Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for a new dog-friendly spot in San Diego. 🐶

Trust means everything when it comes to leaving someone with your senior dog 🐾

Comfortable as your dog does 🤍🐶Most of the families who come to us are worried.
Their dogs have medications.
Mobility issues.
Anxiety.
Special routines.
Or health conditions that need extra attention.

And honestly… we understand that deeply because we’ve spent the last decade caring for and adopting senior dogs ourselves.

Senior dogs are different.
They need patience.
Space.
Comfort.
Consistency.
And people who truly understand aging dogs.

That’s why our environment is built specifically for them.

No chaotic kennel environment.
No overwhelming high-energy daycare chaos.
Just a calm home where senior dogs can relax, feel safe, and be around other dogs with similar energy levels.

And communication is a huge part of that trust, too.

We know how hard it is to be away from your dog, especially an older one. So we make sure owners always get updates, photos, and honest communication while their dogs are with us.

Our goal is simple:
We want you to feel just as

A few happy faces lately at Senior Dog BnB 🐾

May is filling up quickly, and Memorial Day weekend is already fully booked. If you have any upcoming trips or plans this month, we highly recommend getting your reservations in soon.

The same goes for June and July as summer dates are starting to fill up quickly, too. We’d love to make sure your pups are cared for while you’re away. 💛🐶

One of the biggest parts of this job is learning how to read a dog’s comfort level the moment we walk through the door 🐾

Some dogs are already waiting excitedly at the door.
Some are still asleep and don’t even hear us come in.
Some need a slow introduction before they feel safe.

Every dog is different.

The very first thing we focus on isn’t “getting the job done.”
It’s making sure the dog feels comfortable and secure.

Sometimes that means sitting quietly and letting them sniff us first.
Sometimes it means showing them their leash so they realize it’s time for a walk.
Sometimes it means treats, toys, patience, and moving at their pace.

And honestly, sometimes a dog tells us they’re just not comfortable with a stranger in their space and we respect that too.

We never want a dog to feel forced, cornered, or unsafe.

A huge part of caring for senior dogs is understanding their body language, their anxiety levels, and their boundaries, especially when they’re older, and routines matter so much.

At the end of the day, trust always comes first 🤍🐶

If you’re looking for someone patient and experienced with anxious or senior dogs, reach out to schedule a meet and greet.

Daisy is a 10-year-old Papillon mix with one goal in life… never leave daycare 😂🐾

The second her mom comes to pick her up, she suddenly forgets how to go home.

Honestly, she’s built her own little squad here already. She spends most of her time hanging out with her besties, following everyone from room to room, demanding cuddles, and soaking up the sun outside like she owns the place.

And if you know… You KNOW.
She totally gives Edna Mode from The Incredibles energy 🤍

Daisy is one of those dogs who just loves being around people and other pups. Whether she’s curled up on your chest, sitting in your lap, or hopping around excited because someone walked through the door, she’s always bringing happy energy into the house.

She just celebrated her 10th birthday, and honestly, she’s thriving 🥹

If you want your dog to have their own little friend group and feel at home while you’re away, reach out to schedule a meet and greet 🐾
