if done properly, muzzle training can be a very beautiful thing! People often tell me they don't want to muzzle train their reactive dogs because it makes their dog look mean.
Let's put it this way. I would rather my dog look mean than be biting other people or dogs. I would rather my dog look mean than be put on the counties euthanasia list for biting someone. I would rather my dog look mean than be sued for thousands of dollars to cover ER fees. I would rather my dog look mean than not be able to receive veterinary care. I would simply rather explain to people that my dog is fearful, misunderstood, anxious, or slightly unpredictable than to have my dog look approachable when they are most certainly not.
If a muzzle is the difference between a person reaching out to pet your dog who they think is friendly and a person respecting your dogs boundaries and keeping their distance, put the freaking muzzle on. Who cares if your dog looks mean? Literally, who the f**k cares?? They're safe, and that should be your first concern.——
