The patron saint of cats is a woman named Gertrude of Nivelles, who is often depicted holding a cat in her arms.

Forgot to return that library book? No problem—just pay with a cat photo. The Worcester Public Library in Massachusetts has launched "March Meowness," a brilliantly quirky initiative that lets patrons clear their overdue fines by submitting pictures or drawings of cats!

What started as a creative way to remove financial barriers has become a community phenomenon, with over 400 accounts cleared in just five days. Whether you're a cat owner or someone who just doodled a feline on a napkin, the library wants you back—no judgment, no fees, just whiskers. Read the full article to see how this heartwarming program is making a difference.

A Country Just Did What Many Never Expected: Thailand Declares Cats as National Symbols

Thailand has officially named cats as national symbols, and the decision is already touching hearts. For generations, cats have been part of Thai temples, stories and everyday life, and now they finally hold a respected place in the nation’s identity.

This recognition could help raise real awareness for animal welfare. When a country publicly honors an animal, people naturally pay more attention to its treatment. It can lead to more compassion for both pets and the many street cats who depend on communities to survive.

The move may also inspire shelters, families and local groups to support native Thai breeds and care more for the cats who share their neighborhoods. Cultural pride often translates into better protection and responsible care.

A symbol alone cannot fix everything, but it can open doors. If this step encourages kindness and stronger protection, it could help create a safer and more compassionate future for cats across Thailand.

Yay for the kitties of California!!

Banning cat declawing in California is a historic milestone for animal welfare. After years of pushing to make this a reality, I’m proud to see California create a more compassionate society for our feline friends by moving away from this inhumane practice.

Huge thank you to our bill sponsors for supporting AB 867: The Paw Project, Animal Legal Defense Fund, Humane World for Animals, and Humane Veterinary Medical Alliance.
