"What are you guys doing this weekend?"
Probably the same thing we've been doing for close to 5 years now. πŸ˜…πŸ’© Working.

Not because we think hustle culture is cool. Not because we think never taking a day off is something to brag about.
It's just honestly what building this business has looked like for us for close to 5 years now.

When we first started San Diego Scoop Squad, I was still working my corporate job. For those first 8 months, weekends were often spent working on the business because they had to be. I scooped on the weekends. Leon scooped after he got done at his job at noon during the week.

After I left corporate, it became a team effort.
Sometimes I'd work weekends. Sometimes Leon would. Because we still had a 1 year old at home that needed our love and attention, and we didn't have family around to help at the time. So, we were just figuring things out as we went.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit this, but I think we've worked about 98% of weekends over the last 5 years. Not necessarily all day, but almost every weekend has involved at least a little work from one of usβ€”or both of us. A couple scoop jobs. Catching up on admin. Creating content. Planning. Solving problems. Whatever needed to get done.
It's not something I glorify, and if I could go back, I'd probably tell myself to rest more and protect my time better.

But I'm also still incredibly grateful. Grateful for every customer who trusted us. Grateful for every dog we've gotten to know. Grateful for my team. Grateful that this crazy little idea turned into a real business that supports our family. And most of all, grateful that I've had a partner willing to build it alongside me every step of the way.

Leon has never complained. Never questioned the vision. He's always just shown up and asked, "What needs to get done?"

This post isn't about glorifying being busy. Trust me, "I'm tired of this Grandpa! - that's too damn bad!" πŸ˜‚

It's just one of those moments - as I just booked yet another cleaning for us this weekend - where we look at each other and laugh because after all these years, we're still spending another weekend figuring it out together. πŸ’œ

We may be β€œjust the dog p**p people” to some… but the dogs see us a little differently. πŸ’œ
