Just another Blanco update. ❤️
I’ve had a lot of people reach out asking how he’s doing, so I figured I’d make a post and let everyone know.
As my previous Blanco post stated, he had an episode where he began circling and developed nystagmus. He was taken to the overnight emergency clinic, where they believed he was suffering from idiopathic vestibular disease. The following day, he was transferred to the ACS clinic, where he remained for 10 days.
Unfortunately, during that time, Blanco lost a considerable amount of weight and his overall condition declined. After several conversations, the adopter and I agreed that it would be in Blanco’s best interest to stay with me, as he is simply not in any condition to make a long-distance trip.
The reality is that Blanco has a lot going on for an old guy. In addition to being very weak and unsteady, he has two masses near his private area. One of them will break open and bleed if he messes with it, so it has to be kept wrapped. He has also developed sores on his legs from spending so much time lying down.
The good news is that within 24 hours of being back home, I’m already seeing improvements. He has been gobbling up every bit of food I’ve offered him, drinking well, and although he’s still very wobbly when he walks, he is getting up and going to the bathroom on his own. Those may seem like small things, but they’re huge wins.
Blanco will be staying with me as part of our pack. I’m hopeful that with good food, lots of love, and the comfort of being in a home, he’ll continue to improve. I also plan to get him in with my veterinarian within the next week for a full evaluation.
Thank you to everyone who has checked on him, prayed for him, and followed his journey. He is one very loved old man. 💙
