**UPDATE - Whiskey is still available!

Our sweet Ms Whiskey will be ready next week for her new couch and family to spoil her more rotten than she already is. She just turned 5 in September and has been spayed. Whiskey has the sweetest temperament and the goofiest personality. She is a pretty active girl and does enjoy using that nose. We love this girl so much and was panning to keep her here, but I really think she would be happier with a family all to herself that she would get to go out and do things with more than I can do here. She is potty trained and knows how to use a doggy door…. Great on a leash, very sociable and loves car rides.

Whiskey does like to counter surf though 🙈. But a simple baby gate or two stops that. She drools, she snores, she sheds, snorts, nose has to touch anything she smells that’s new, and she knows how to use those eyes to get what she wants…. Typical bloodhound 😆

I know I’ve seen a huge spike in interest of people wanting to get involved in and/or train their pup (or future pup) in SAR - especially in our area alone since July 4th. I have not personally been to a virtual seminar or have any experience what-so-ever with Center for Forensic Training and Education, but I can’t imagine it would hurt to sign up for for a free virtual seminar to see if SAR is something that would fit into your schedule or something you feel you can commit to. I don’t think a lot of folks realize the commitment of time and expense it requires to be involved, educated and have a well trained dog in order to ever get deployed to assist. I am often asked why I don’t get involved with a team again…. Besides my knee and ankle giving me problems, I know I can’t commit to what it takes as far as time goes for training.

Many want to do it for something fun to do with their hound, but this is why a lot of teams have started making people apply and attend so many trainings before they can ever even have their dog evaluated by the team to see if he/she would make a good candidate for training. It takes a team effort to train these dogs and it takes precious time away from those that are serious and really want to go to all trainings, seminars and demos - as well as be available for deployment once certified. So those just wanting something fun to do with their dogs are better suited getting involved in AKC trials and other events.

Anyway, I think this is a just a good way to see if this is truly for you. I signed up so I can check it out. I’m always up for staying in the know in books, classes and seminars in order to point others to for education and training in SAR. 😉

So very proud of K9 Duke and K9 Bayard. Both are Boerner’s babies and Whitney has done an amazing job of training these boys. I think they just reposted an older post and added the info about Whitney and Duke coming to TX to help with the July 4th flood. Bayard was 3 months in the pic, but is now a year old.. ❤️

Meet Deputy Whitney Payne, the first female handler in Bradley County, TN whose dedication and compassion drive her every step of the way.

Her loyal partner Duke, a 7-year-old Bloodhound certified in trailing and cadaver recovery, has served with heart and determination — most recently responding to the devastating floods in Texas. Whitney described the experience as “surreal,” saying, “It makes me feel good that we’ve been asked to help out in a situation like this because you’re also doing this to give families closure.”

Following in his big brother’s pawprints, Bayard, a 3-month-old pup from Boerner’s Bloodhounds, is already in training for trailing and cadaver work.

Together, they represent strength, compassion, and the incredible bond between K9s and their handlers — serving not only their community but families in need of answers.

Check out itty bitty K9 Rooty - she’s a riot. She absolutely loves Teddy and he adores her 🥰. She doesn’t have a clue how little she is, as it doesn’t slow her down one bit. Rooty will be 9 weeks old tomorrow. She’ll be here for another week and a half while her new mom & dad take their older bloodhound, K9 Gisli, to a seminar. Once they get back, Rooty will get to meet her new big sister. ❤️

Whiskey & Boudin puppies turned 8 weeks old yesterday. Well, here we are… go home week! These babies sure have grown in the last two weeks. Several have doubled their weight since their check up two weeks ago. Each one has such different personalities too in this litter. We have “the nose”, “the waterbug”, “the goofball”, “the chill pup”, “the lovebug”, “the deviant”, and “the observer”. And they all work together to get what they want too lol. I am really going to miss these sweet babies, but am looking forward to watching them all grow with their new families.

Whiskey & Boudin puppies turned 7 weeks old yesterday. Since hunting season opens this weekend (for archery), I had to set the stage for pics accordingly 😁. I can’t believe the difference in these babies from last week to this week. Pups gained from 2-5 pounds each since last Tuesday. These past 7 weeks have just flown by. This litter has so many different personalities and each stands out in their own way for different things. All are just the sweetest and absolutely love playing with my grandson. Think he wore a few of them out this evening before picture time. Half of them did not want to have anything to do with getting pics taken lol. So hard to believe they will begin going home next week already.

Whiskey & Boudin puppies turned 6 weeks old yesterday. Puppies all went in for their check up yesterday and received their first puppy vaccination. Everyone did great and had a perfect exam. They always get lots of attention, but I think little Ms Rooty completely stole the show. She got checked over extra good and then babied the rest of the time. These babies are weaning and adjusting very well. No inside or porch accidents at all. They’ve been getting to play in the office yard some now and enjoy getting to explore all the new things. So hard to believe just 2 more weeks before they start going to their new homes.

Whiskey & Boudin puppies turned 5 weeks old today. Puppies learned quickly to go out the doggy door onto the puppy porch to get to their food, water and even started going potty out there. They have been wanting to get out into the yard so bad the last couple days, so I opened them up this morning. They took to exploring and even going potty out there like momma right away. No hesitation and enjoying it like they’ve been doing it all along.. they started eating dry food last week, but still getting soft food (just not exactly mush anymore) and of course still nursing on momma some. Everyone received their microchips today and next Tuesday they get to go see the vet for their 6 week check up and first puppy vaccination. Can’t believe we just have 3 weeks left before they start heading to their new homes.

Whiskey & Boudin puppies turned 4 weeks old yesterday. Oh the babies are everywhere… Tomorrow they get to start going out onto the porch. Little ms. itty bitty finally has one eye fully opened up and the other just finally cracked open before I took pics. She’s a little go getter - her tiny size does not hold her back one bit. Babies are getting their coordination down and even trying to pounce and run at each othe now. I need to get some videos of them playing tomorrow. They started eating soft mush food last week and have been loving it. I am so happy Whiskey keeps them so clean because they end up wearing as much as they eat 😆 And the hanging toys - they just love trying to catch them and tug or chew!

Whiskey & Boudin puppies turned 3 week old today. Due to a crazy busy schedule and then getting sick on top of it, unfortunately I missed the 2 week pics. Everyone, except little bitty 3, has their eyes opened up. It’s time to start playing the desensatizing CD now that they are hearing more. This is my favorite week because they start trying to play and are walking/wobbling now. I’ll get their hanging toys up so they can begin coordinating eyes with touching as well. Their whole world just became so much bigger and it’s so much fun to watch them take it all in and explore. I’m certain most of the litter was conceived the first breeding and then a few were conceived the last. That means #3 is just a premie and is developing slower because she wasn’t quite done baking when the others decided it was time to come out of the oven. So she’s just needing a little more care to get her started. I’m sure she will end up just as big as the others by time she is 4-5 months. The little ones usually do….
