Pets in Protective Orders
Senate Bill 555

1. This bill was passed in the committee in 2011 and signed by Gov. Perry
2. The County District Attorneys Assoc. would not enforce the bill as they wanted some of the language changed
3. This has been done and now we need to move the bill out of the House Comm. to the House floor for a vote.
4. This is as much a people bill as it is a pet bill and it is the 4th session for this bill and we cannot let victims of domestic abuse suffer any longer. They have a close attachment to their pets and will not leave an abusive situation when their pets are threatened with death, beatings or mutilation.
5. WE NEED A HEARING ON SB555 IN THIS COMMITTEE
6. JUDICIARY AND CIVIL JURISPRUDENCE COMMITTEE MEMBERS

7. The committee members that are in bold and underlined were on this committee last session and voted in favor of this bill when it passed.
8. Because the County DA’s Association would not enforce the bill without changes we had to go back again, t his makes 4 sessions on this bill. Meanwhile domestic abuse victims and their pets continue to suffer.
9. PLEASE, call each of these committee members and, respectfully ask for a hearing on SB55. These human and animal victims should not have to wait another 2 years for help!!!!

FACS had a booth at the Pet Expo last Saturday and we all had a great time. See our booth and some of the animals attending. We educated on Spay/Neuter, "The Link" between animal abuse, child abuse, and family violence, as well as basic pet care. What a wonderful Day!!

Every time a person is born in the United States, so are 15 dogs and 46 cats.

Cats are 45 times as prolific, and dogs 12 times as prolific, as humans.

Most importantly, Between 82% and 84% of dog bites are by un-neutered males.

Yesterday, Friends of Animal Care Services took part in The Bark in the Park, sponsored by the San Antonio Area Foundation. What a great success!!

The Texas Federation of Animal Care Societies just had our Annual Training Conference in Austin, Texas.
Friends of Animal Care Services paid for 12 people, including Director Kathy Davis, from San Antonio Animal Care Services to attend and get needed training and networking with animal care groups from across the State of Texas. Many great speakers came from all across the nation, from California UC-Davis to New York and everywhere in between.
One highlight, although rainy and cold, was the Spay/Neuter Rally on the Capitol steps meeting with legislators and their aides.
Next February the Texas Federation of Animal Care Societies will hold our Conference right here in San Antonio. We will need all hands on deck to help make this a great Training Conference.
