You might wonder how your shy Kitty would do while you're away on vacation and she's home with a new visitor caring for her. It took Cleo a couple of visits to really warm up but she and Takayo have a loving relationship now. 💖 ⭐⭐⭐Tip: when using a cat sitter for the first time plan a short trip to see how your kitty does. You will likely be surprised at how well things go with a skilled professional cat sitter.⭐⭐⭐

TEST YOUR CAT KNOW-HOW WITH OUR FUN MULTIPLE CHOICE:
The last time Emily saw Doris prior to this recent visit was September 2019.
Exactly 2 years ago! Your job is to gauge Doris' reaction to seeing Emily again.

Hints: 💡
✔️Pre-covid we cared for Doris for about 4 days per trip, several times per year, over approximately 5 years
✔️Doris knows more than just one sitter/team member
✔️Doris is not skittish but she does want to get to know you before she's completely comfortable

Now for the multiple choice:

How do you think Doris reacted after 2 years? Did Doris:

a) remember Emily right away without hesitation
b) remember Emily but it took just a moment to get reacquainted and relaxed
c) remain cautious the first visit like she is with all new care visitors
The answer will be in the alt-text & tag posted in the last photo on the carousel👉

A CANDID INTERVIEW WITH RAVEN

We're proud to announce we beat out Howard Stern to get the first interview with Raven.

Sitter: Raven, we've only just met but I understand you've had quite a struggle waiting 7 months in a shelter for your forever home. Mind if we share your story with our audience?
Raven: Well, I'm not worried about it but if you people are, go for it.
Sitter: Great. Can you tell us what happened?
Raven: All I know is I was a lodger at the shelter. The other lodgers kept coming and going. People came up to my kennel, glanced and moved on. It really hurt. I don't know why.
Sitter: That's heartbreaking! You're obviously a sweet and lovable girl. Why did they do that?
Raven: Everyone kept calling me FIV+. So I figured out that was my name. My name scared them away I guess. They kept saying, 'she's FIV+' and people walked away. It doesn't sound like a nice name does it? Plus people didn't like that I scratch my itchy skin. I can't help it, it itches.
Sitter: How did you keep going through all this?
Raven: The people who worked there had faith in me. They told me I was special and it would take a while for someone as special as me to come take me home.
Sitter: Well they were obviously right!
Raven: And thank god my mom renamed me. They told her I was 'FIV+' like they do everyone and she said she didn't care. Guess my mom wasn't worried about my name like other people. She calls me Raven.
Sitter: I can add to your story if you'd like to know more.
Raven: Yes, please!
Sitter: Your mom couldn't come get you sooner because there was another special kitty that was your mom's family, Smokey. Smokey was older and had many problems. He was like you - a special kitty passed up by others waiting for your mom. You couldn't arrive until Smokey's time here was complete. Smokey was very loved when he passed. Only then could your new mom and dad set out to find you.
Raven: Oh, I see now! It's important they took care of Smokey. Glad I stayed longer at the shelter.
Sitter: And better news still, you are actually FIV negative.
Raven: So they didn't even get my horrible name right?
Sitter: No, your name is Raven.
Raven: It is now.
Sitter: Nevermind. Point is you have a good vet who is working on your itchy rash.
Raven: Yeah, well I don't trust them so I'll have to take your word on that.
Sitter: Raven, it's been an eye-opening interview but our visit is coming to a close and we have other kitties waiting to be fed this morning.
Raven: I'm fed, clean box, catnip. I'm dozing off now to be honest.
Sitter: Well then, we'll wrap it up here and I'll see you in the morning, okay? Raven?
Raven: Zzzzzzz

BEFORE/AFTER
Michi and Luna are two very shy American Shorthairs. So shy in fact, it took a series of social visits making friends before they would eat at all for us. On Takayo's visit they finally realized that their meal time visitors weren't so bad after all. Michi and Luna made friends with Takayo in one visit and we're so proud of how far they've come. Good job Michi and Luna! 😺😺😊

Hazel, "Psst, hey sitter. I know you're busy scooping & everything but I need to talk."
Sitter, "Sure, let me put the scooper down. You look worried, what's up?"
Hazel, "My housemate. You know I really don't like him."
Sitter, "But why? He really wants to hang out with you. He adores you!"
Hazel, "That's it. He's everywhere! I can't get a purr in edgewise."
Sitter, "He means well. Have you tried discussing it?"
Hazel, "I slap him & all I get this dumbfounded look. He helps himself to MY toys and MY favorite cozy spots. Do me just a little favor. I know you make the cat litter sack and empty cans disappear. Put him there."
Sitter, "Hazel, that's the trash!"
Hazel, "I know the cans don't come back so it's all good."

An Interview with Miranda: 21 YEARS of Wisdom

At 21 years young we interviewed Miranda for advice on what it takes for a long healthy life.

Companion Keepers: So Miranda that's quite an achievement. In human years that would put you over 100 years old.
What would be your number one tip for the rest of us trying to get there?

Miranda: Relationships, it would have to be relationships. My mom has been there with love and support no matter what. Thankfully she's also good at taking orders

CK: Orders? What would those be?

Miranda: For example most cats will settle for drinking out of a bowl. I have a cup in the living area on the carpet. A water bowl can you imagine settling for that?

CK: What else would you add?

Miranda: People get tired of hearing it but, diet. My mom doesn't feed me junk food but some of that healthy stuff doesn't taste good either. Fortunately I know how to negotiate. I'll eat that as long as you give me tuna juice. Love me some tuna juice. I have a cup of it by my dry food bowl. It works.

CK: What would you say is the most challenging thing you've had to deal with as you get older?

Miranda: The meds, ugh the meds! I know I need them but I need a little dignity as well. So it's important to struggle when you get your medications. Give in eventually but don't be a pushover!

CK: What else can you think of?

Miranda: It's challenging for my mom to get away and I sometimes feel bad for her. I know she hires you guys to help out so she can get a break. I kind of like that I have precise typed instructions from my mom regarding my medications and the important stuff like my tuna juice.

CK: What kind of activities keep you youthful?

Miranda: Summing up people. Sorry, I'm a torti so you'll have to live with my judgemental "torti-tude". It keeps me entertained.

CK: Anything else?

Miranda: Well I do love me some catnip. Comfort zone spray is kind of nice too. I've got a favorite window and I like watching people dragging dogs around on leashes. Can you rationalize being led to a predetermined location, namely an outdoor litter box, on a leash? I've been studying this for years. I still can't understand why dogs stand for it.

CK: Any parting advice for us? And we also understand you're moving.

Miranda: Stay feisty, always stay feisty. Keep a bit of mystery so people always wonder what you're thinking. Hold your ground! Don't settle for less than what you want. Yes, I'm moving. Not crazy about it. I don't like change. But then again I'm tired of watching the same old dogs being lead around to poop everyday. Maybe there's some new dogs to analyze although they're all so predictable. Maybe some squirrels and birds I can watch instead. A human or two to study.

CK: Miranda, it's been a real pleasure. We really enjoyed caring for you over the years.

Miranda: Yeah, thanks for the tuna juice and catnip. I'm not supposed to let on that I care, but I do. Such great memories!

05/18/2021

20 years old! Spot the feral super senior defies the odds. She started her life as a neighborhood feral. Feral kitties sadly survive on average only a few short years. Disease, preditors, weather, it's a hard life. Spot survived her challenges with love and patience from her adopted family living out most of her years sheltering on the back patio. She was wary keeping her distance from humans most of her adult life. She would wait hidden at the rear of her yard for us to place her fresh food, water, and check her heating pad or kitty shelter depending on the weather, before returning to the patio. But gradually as she aged her mom told us to move closer as Spot was gaining trust. Like magic Spot accepted some limited pets. Then it happened! One day her mom announced Spot had finally graduated to an indoor pampered family member in 2019. It took some coaxing but Spot enjoys long grooming and TLC sessions from everyone on our team now. From skiddish yard feral to attention seeking diva, what an accomplishment especially at an advanced age. You may not be able to teach "an old dog new tricks" but you certainly can teach a cat! Do you have an amazing feral story? We would love to hear it?

I thought this was very insightful for those of us that feed feral cats and end up feeding other critters. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2229481407348610&id=1789512581345497
Congratulations to Leah and Rosemary 😺
I have great faith that my cats, first generation feral as they are, will be fine without me, but it is a HUGE load off my mind while travelling to have regular updates from the house. So nice to have such awesome communication with Rosemary's reports!
Rosemary, thanks so much for relaying my Kizzy's story! You wrote a beautiful one!!! We love our Kizzy!!
Lol - thought you would enjoy this post 😻
Thought I would share :)
A quick shoutout to Companion Keepers: This company has exceeded my expectations. Aside from cleaning and feeding, Leah and Rosemary devote undivided attention to your animals. They are thorough and make sure that all of your pets needs are taken care of to your liking. Their communication is excellent and they go out of their way to update you on your pet while you are away, often sending many cute pictures! When I return from out of town, I have no doubt that my pet, Blanco has been well cared for. I trust this company and it is obvious they love what they do. Thank you Companion Keepers! We will be seeing you again soon! - Laura and Blanco
Companion Keepers are the absolute best!!! They go above and beyond! I will never have to worry about leaving for trips with them in charge. My Kizzy was so calm and contented when we returned from our recent trip.
I am so happy to have found Companion Keepers. They are consummate professionals and I have used them for years. The peace of mind is worth its weight in gold. Needless to say they have a wonderful way with my crew... the "Kids" just love them.
This is Sir Cupid, my eldest. He is handsome beyond belief!
