It’s always a good day when we get to see our sloth friends! 🦥✨

This adorable two-toed sloth stopped by to visit Dr. Coke and the team for a social visit. These visits help desensitize them to the veterinary clinic atmosphere and make future appointments less stressful for everyone involved.

Dropsy (also known as fish bloat) is a serious condition commonly seen in captive fish in which the body swells due to fluid accumulation. Affected fish often appear bloated with raised, “pinecone-like” scales and may have significant difficulty swimming.

Dropsy is typically a symptom of an underlying issue such as bacterial infection, poor water quality, kidney dysfunction, parasites, or chronic stress. Because it can progress rapidly, prompt veterinary intervention is critical and may include water quality correction, dietary changes, and/or medications depending on the cause.

If your fish is showing signs such as difficulty swimming, lethargy, swelling, or loss of appetite, contact us to schedule an appointment with our board-certified exotic animal specialists.

Gabriella couldn’t hide her smile when this little joey came to visit! 🦘✨ Talk about a true “bundle of joy”!

This adorable baby stopped by for a social visit to help familiarize the joey with the veterinary setting, making future appointments less stressful and more comfortable for both the joey and our staff.

It’s hard to believe that fully grown Red Kangaroos can reach up to 7 feet tall and weigh nearly 200 pounds!

All hear the roar of the mighty Gecko! 🦖🌋 Rex gave us his best T-Rex impression after his visit with Dr. Coke for a hemipenile plug removal. We'd be a little cranky too after something as private as that!

Hemipenal plugs are hard, waxy accumulations of seminal fluid, cellular debris, or shed skin that build up in the inverted hemipenes of male lizards. If you notice swelling between your gecko's legs, you should never try to extract these yourself. Instead, contact us to arrange an appointment with our board certified specialists.

Nyx, the Juvenile Americana Hen, is making waves in the poultry fashion world with her new vogue plastic necklace. It's absolutely not just an Elizabethan collar to stop her from picking at her ear infection. If you have a very fashionable bird that is having difficulty leaving an injury alone, come and see our stylists/veterinarians here to get in on the latest trend! 💄 💅 🐓

A White's Tree Frog named Nubz came in to see Dr. Coke due to a dark swelling of his forearm that had progressed recently to the loss of the affected limb's toes. Dr. Coke was able to amputate the necrotic leg and send Nubz out the door with one less leg but a lot better prognosis. Nubz will continue to be under the care of the South Texas Avian and Exotic team until he's back to his regular hoppy (and happy) self!

We can’t overstate how sweet Ian, a 2-month-old Holland Lop, is! For any new bunny joining your home, we recommend scheduling an establishing exam to ensure they’re in good overall health, get vaccines on track, and discuss spaying or neutering. Also so we can cuddle them...but mostly for the medical part, we promise! 🤞🐰
