Wings And Reins Equine Refuge W.A.R. is a 501(c)3 corporation that provides a caring, safe environment for equines that have been neglected, abused, and/or abandoned. EIN: 45-3033936

The specific purpose of W.A.R. is to provide a caring, safe and positive environment for those equines that have either been neglected, abused, abandoned, and/or are at risk of going to slaughter. We specialize in physically abused equines that are considered dangerous. We pride ourselves in providing a unique approach to rehabilitating these wonderful equines through patience, trust, years of exp

erience, love and, of course, the occasional treat. is a no kill shelter and we do have some long term care residents due to their previous situations, but we strive to adopt out as many horses as possible to loving, long term, knowledgeable homes. We place these horses
in an environment that benefits both the horse and the adoptive family. is dedicated to horse welfare and is an ALL breed horse rescue; we have no limits to the age, breed, gender, condition etc. of horses needing to come in. frequently works with Animal Control and Law Enforcement officers on abuse and neglect cases where equines are in need of being impounded, rehabilitated, and re homed. We also accept horses surrendered by private owners that can no longer provide a home for their horse.

We still need to raise more funds but we can breathe a little better today.
This is Flicka. One of the long term residents at WAR. Flicka came to us terrified of people and with scars from humans and from dog bites. Flicka was adopted several years ago but she had to come back to WAR as she regressed and became untouchable. She has learned to feel safe with us here at WAR and your donations provide for her care. Without YOU we could not give Flicka the care and love that she deserves.

We very rarely asks for funds so when we do it is because we are desperately low. We currently have less than $400.
We usually receive a grant in December/January which helps get us get through the winter months. Unfortunately the grant application dates changed and so we will not be receiving any grant funds until June.
We have had a lot of additional expenses over the past several months. Fixing the broken water hoses and automatic water floats that broke during the freeze. Feeding extra hay to help keep our horses and donkeys warm. Plus some unexpected vet bills.
We have a lot of upcoming expense over the next 30 days:

Wormer $240.68
Farrier $750
Hay $840
14 Grain $491.04
Vet bill $500
TOTAL $3,067.57

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Large or small, it all helps.

THE LEGEND OF THE DONKEY CROSS

The story is told that the little donkey that had been Jesus mount on Palm Sunday, followed his gentle master to the hills of Calvary.
The little donkey so loved the Lord that he wanted to help Him carry the cross, but alas, he was pushed away.
Grief stricken by the sight of Jesus on the cross the donkey turned away but he could not leave because of his love for Jesus.
It was then the shadow of the cross fell across the shoulders and the back of the little donkey, and there it has remained forevermore, a tribute to the loyalty and love of the humblest of God's creatures.
