My day off is the only time I get to see these guys in the sun. It's so relaxing to be able to see them enjoying the shallows and having a good time. They have grown so well its amazing. I can't wait to see them come spring when we pull them out and revamp the pool pond!!! They are still eating like crazy which I like since it means they are continuing to grow. Some of these will be for sale come spring.
Hope everyone is having a safe time prepping for Christmas and the new year! 2022 hopes to have big plans for this little business.
See ya on the flip side!!

Hey my fellow koi lovers. This is just a quick video featuring a few of our lovely matsukawabake. This is Diamond a ginrin beni matsukawabake. You wouldn't know it by looking at her now but this wasn't her color before winter. I'm going to post some pics of her before she got this dark. This is the wonderful variation of the matsukawabake and kumonryu(scaleless) varieties. They literally change with the season or even with different waters.
These varieties you will see frequently here at . We plan on mapping out both domestic and Japanese koi. We have already learned quite a bit and are still learning everyday. The few we have have changed so much they are almost unrecognizable. So stay tuned on our as we hopefully unlock the secrets to the flying dragon koi!! 🐉

Well plan A didn't work, lol... so back to the drawing board.
For those who may have seen the few videos I have posted, we have a 14ft circular above ground pool in the garage. This is our grow outs tank, but catching these grow outs is proving to be a little more difficult than we thought. So we thought we could put a net in and just use that to catch them whenever we needed. Unfortunately for us the net floats. So through careful consideration we bought fishing weights to try to weigh this net down. Sorta worked but mostly it didn't. Also, with the net being smaller than we need that didn't help. So tried to redneck it and yeah that didn't work either. So now it's back to the drawing and imagination board. The fish are happier since we had to take the net out... one day maybe we will get it right, lol...

Hey everyone welcome back.
Here is a little for those who use aquarium heaters to heat their smaller ponds or even aquariums. We have used this size and smaller with no issues in the past. When purchased this one we looked over the tube since it is glass to make sure that it was intact. Sadly we didn't realize that it was broken where we couldn't see it. Causing water to leak into the area with the coils and electrifying the water.
Luckily this heater went into our quarantine tank which isn't grounded, therefore we didn't lose any fish. All we got was a shocking experience after we grounded ourselves and touched the water. Sadly, others may not be so lucky. If we had put this heater in any of our other ponds it could have easily been a disaster.
So just make sure to inspect any heaters going in, and if have the ability please test them. That way know if they are safe or need to get another one. This one has been taken back and we are going to upgrade to different type that is hopefully less fragile.

One of the most important aspects to a koi pond is not the fish!!! Its the filtration system and the pump. This video explains what to look for in a pump for your system, small or large...
We have both large and small systems and have tried multiple different pumps until we found the right ones.
When doing a small pond think 2x gph(gallons per hour) MINIMUM. The more the merrier! When have a very, and I mean VERY, large pond it works in reverse. So for our 500, 650 and 2800 gallon ponds we have a 3600, 2400 and 5100 gallon pumps on them respectively. Now the 30,000 gallon pool pond will only have 20,000gph and that will be plenty for that pond.
Now keep in mind, when buying a pond pump watch what it is used for. Regular pond pumps are not meant for a fish load. So even though may be enough via water but it may not be enough with fish.
So just some info to keep in mind.
Stay tuned and see ya on the flip side.
