Here’s a tricky case from a few months ago, referred for reconstruction of a chronic wound resulting from dehiscence following a mast cell tumour excision.
Overlying the caudal thigh, with sparse surrounding skin, we elected utilise a subdermal plexus flap to transpose skin from the cranial thigh into the deficit. Rhomboid flaps are rarely reported in the veterinary literature; rotation, advancement, and traditional rectangular transposition flaps being more commonly used.
With a wide base, short overall length, and no resulting ‘dog-ears’ they fit many of the criteria of the ‘ideal’ sub dermal plexus flap. Follow the link for the full open access Vet Record case report:

Positive delegate feedback is always nice to have on the day; but when a delegate thanks you because the practical course you taught last year enabled them to step in (as a recent graduate) and take over from their struggling boss and another experienced colleague, to perform a successful resection and anastomosis on a mesenteric torsion it makes your day.
