Friendly notice from your dog trainer who plans way too far ahead:

March 11–14, 2027 is officially unavailable for boarding and private lessons because I’ll be busy living out a dream I set for myself years ago.

Suede and I will be in Oklahoma competing at the National Agility Championship after officially qualifying for the event! 🇺🇸

Yes, I realize it’s only June 2026 and I’m already blocking off dates for March 2027. No, I have no regrets. If you’ve met me, you know I operate on dog trial calendars, not normal people calendars.

I’m incredibly proud of my little poodle and everything we’ve accomplished together. Qualifying for NAC was one of my biggest goals, and now we get to go represent Texas on the national stage.

Now excuse me while I spend the next nine months alternating between being excited and wondering if I should have started packing already.

As a trainer, one of the most valuable tools I have isn’t equipment—it’s my dogs.

Having stable, neutral, and confident demo dogs makes a huge difference when working with clients who are struggling. Whether it’s a dog that’s unsure of new environments, lacking confidence, or working through reactivity toward other dogs, the right demo dog helps create controlled, safe, and productive learning moments.

A solid demo dog can:
• Show appropriate social behavior without escalating
• Help build confidence in insecure dogs
• Provide clear, consistent feedback for reactive dogs
• Allow setups that simply wouldn’t be possible otherwise

These dogs aren’t just “good dogs”—they’re highly trained, thoughtful partners who understand their job and can handle pressure without falling apart. That kind of stability is something I never take for granted.

In this photo is Drift, my 5-year-old Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, working alongside client dog Midnight. Here, he’s helping her build environmental confidence and work through reactivity around other dogs in a controlled, supportive setup.

Welcoming Luna to the Peak Canine Care crew 🐾

Luna is here for a Refine & Shine Program, where we’ll be fine-tuning her confidence and clarity out in real-world environments. From navigating busy parking lots to maintaining a solid, focused heel in stores, this program is all about building reliability where it matters most.

Public access isn’t just about obedience—it’s about a dog that can think, recover, and stay engaged no matter the environment. Luna has already shown she’s capable of settling in and stepping into work mode once she understands the picture… now we’re just sharpening those skills.

Excited to fine-tune the skills she already has!

Abby & Jazz living their BEST lives 🙌🐾

These two used to take full advantage of their property… aka running off whenever they felt like it 😅 Their owners wanted a way to give them freedom without losing accountability, and that’s exactly what we worked on in private lessons.

We introduced e-collar training the right way—clear communication, fair expectations, and tons of consistency from their owners.

Now?
✔️ Off-leash freedom
✔️ Reliable recall
✔️ Happy dogs that still get to be dogs

This is what it’s all about—freedom with boundaries.

E-collar training isn’t about punishment, it’s about communication and safety. When done correctly, it opens up a whole new world for both dogs and owners.

So proud of this team for putting in the work.

🌧️ Rainy day adventures > skipping them

I know it’s super tempting to stay inside when it’s raining (trust me, I get it 😅), but honestly… rainy walks are some of the best outings you can give your dog.

Everything smells stronger, the environment feels different, and your dog gets way more mental stimulation than they would on a normal walk. It’s basically enrichment without you having to do anything extra.

And here’s a big bonus—there are usually way less triggers out. Fewer dogs, fewer people, fewer bikes… which makes it such a good opportunity for dogs that get overwhelmed easily. You can actually have a calmer, more successful walk.

Plus, dogs that only go out in “perfect” weather tend to struggle when things aren’t ideal. Letting them experience different conditions builds confidence and creates a more well-rounded dog.

So yeah… you might get a little wet and a little muddy, but your dog is going to come home way more fulfilled (and probably crash hard after 😂).

Rainy days don’t have to mean no walk. Throw on a jacket and go let your dog sniff the world.

Roary is almost ready to head home! 🐾✨

This smart little girl has been with me for a two-week board & train, and we’ve packed a LOT into her stay!

At just 6 months old, Roary’s owners have big goals for her future in dog sports—so instead of rushing skills, we focused on something even more important first: foundation.

During her stay, Roary worked on:
✔️ Exposure to new environments
✔️ Confidence building in busy/public settings
✔️ Age-appropriate impulse control
✔️ Learning how to exist around high-level activity

She joined me on outings to places like Tractor Supply, Academy, and Lowe’s, tagged along to group classes to observe agility dogs in action, and even got to experience FastCAT practice and a Barn Hunt trial environment 👏

But one of the BIGGEST skills we worked on?

👉 The art of doing nothing.

This is something so many people overlook—especially in sport dog homes.

A successful sport dog isn’t just the one that can run fast, sniff hard, or perform flawlessly…
It’s the dog that can:
• Settle between runs
• Stay neutral around chaos
• Watch other dogs work without getting overstimulated
• Regulate their own energy

If your dog can’t turn off, they’ll struggle to truly perform when it’s their turn.

Teaching puppies like Roary how to relax, observe, and stay mentally neutral in exciting environments builds:
✨ Better focus
✨ Emotional stability
✨ Clear-headed performance
✨ Confidence in new places

And most importantly—it prevents burnout and frustration later on.

💥 And don’t worry—Roary absolutely got to have FUN too!

In between all that “doing nothing,” she:
🐾 Played in agility tunnels
🐾 Explored age-appropriate equipment to build confidence with new textures and movement
🐾 Got to try a FastCAT run
🐾 Had a safe intro and evaluation with a rat for future ratting sports

Because raising a well-rounded sport prospect means finding the balance between drive and downtime.

Roary has done an amazing job learning that she doesn’t have to be “on” all the time 💛

I’m so proud of this girl and can’t wait to see where her sport journey takes her!

Wembly and Roary took a training field trip to Lowe’s today! 🐾
We worked on confidence building and engagement in a brand new environment—two of my favorite things to focus on during board & train. Real world practice = real world results.
