It's always hard to get leash training done during these hot Texas summers, but we always manage to make it work both safely and effectively! Check out S.T.A.R PUPPY alumni Birdie getting some more work in on her leash training. 🐾🎓🐾

For those following Cerberus's journey, he went in yesterday for a bandage change and an incision check. Everything is looking great! We also received the results of his biopsy, and this time the surgeon achieved clear margins! 🎉

Next up, we begin chemotherapy next week. Please continue to keep this sweet boy in your thoughts as he continues his fight. ❤️🐾

Sydney wrapped up my featured dogs for this week with San Angelo Animal Shelter Adoptables volunteer group, and he reminded me of something important, dogs aren't born knowing what we expect from them. They learn through patience, clear communication, consistency, and a little time.

At the beginning of the video, Sydney jumps up to get my attention because that's the behavior he knows. By the end, he's already choosing to sit on his own because he realizes that good choices earn attention and rewards.

Training isn't about expecting perfection overnight. It's about showing our dogs what to do instead of focusing on what we don't want. Every dog deserves that opportunity to learn.

Sydney is a smart, energetic young dog with so much potential. If you're looking for an intelligent companion, I hope you'll consider giving him the loving home he deserves. ❤️🐾

Three years ago, Cheyenne's future was uncertain.

This beautiful senior American Pit Bull Terrier came to our sanctuary after being surrendered because of severe separation anxiety and confinement anxiety. Her panic was so overwhelming that she once broke out of her crate and then through a window, injuring herself, simply trying to escape being left alone.

Today, that dog is almost unrecognizable.

This morning, she spent her time peacefully soaking up the sunrise, completely content. ❤️

Cheyenne is now living medication-free, can rest comfortably in her crate while we're away, and has become the calm, confident dog she always deserved the chance to be.

Her journey is a reminder that behavior isn't about a dog being "bad." It's often the result of fear, stress, or trauma. With patience, understanding, structure, and the right training, even the most difficult cases can write an entirely new chapter.

Watching Cheyenne enjoy the simple things in life, like a quiet morning in the sunshine, is one of the greatest rewards we could ever ask for.

Here's to second chances... and to the dogs who remind us every day that healing is possible. 🐾☀️

🐾🖤 MEET JACKIE SPARROW ☠️🐾

One of the most important things to remember when bringing home a shelter dog is that they need time to adjust. You may hear it called a "decompression period," but all it really means is giving your new companion the patience, space, and understanding they need to feel safe in their new home.

Some dogs settle in quickly, while others, especially those who are naturally shy or have experienced trauma, may need a little longer. Jackie Sparrow is one of those dogs. With a little patience and a lot of love, she has the potential to truly shine.

If you're looking for a loyal companion and are willing to let her adjust at her own pace, Jackie Sparrow is waiting to meet you at the San Angelo Animal Shelter. ❤️🐾
