I've been inactive over here and I just wanna say, "I'm still around!".

Animals are still being trained, homes taken care of while you're away ❤️ I'm so fortunate to have word of mouth to keep my passion and this hobby alive. Sending love!

Here's a good video! I particularly appreciate when he says, "No one pets my dog until he is calm."

Got barking?!

Dogs have several different types of barking, and once you figure out why your dog is barking- you can then help reduce or stop the behavior completely.

Did you know that yelling your dog's name or shouting something like, "stop barking! quiet!!" doesn't actually help? You're just barking along with your dog and encouraging the behavior!!

You should never use your dog's name in a negative way, either!

More q's?? Hit me up via email or DM ♡

let's work together to help improve both you & your dog's quality of life!

Building Bonds

I encourage anyone with questions about how snake safety training works with and without a shock collar to please call Building Bonds to learn about the reality of keeping your dog safe from snakes. Every day I hear people talk about snake training and 100% of the time the information people have is full of fallacies.

Here is a simple truth, there are no guarantees with any type of training. Period.

There is no data that shows positive punishment or negative reinforcement with the use of a shock collar is the most effective training method to keep dogs safe from snakes.

There is plenty of data from research studies that indicate the use of shock collars induces stress, fear, and aggression.

There is plenty of data that indicates using positive reinforcement is the most effective and humane way to train animals. And YES, you can use it to train them to move away from snakes even WHEN YOU ARE NOT WITH THEM.

under the premise of "keeping them safe" from snakes.

Yes! Thank you ♡

Holidays are coming! I don't know about you- but my favorite time of year is afoot.

Start considering pet/home sitter options at least two months in advance. Why plan so early? Because it's smart, and you- you are a smart human.

Pet and house sitting are abolutely dependent upon trust, and knowing your caretaker will provide quality, safe company for your home.

This is one of my regulars, Oso. He and I bonded day 1 because energy is everything. Positive reinforcement, strong relationships built on trust, and a bit of doggy know-how are my driving forces to help provide you with security while you are away.

Oso is hanging out with me while I paint mini masterpieces ♡

Separation anxiety is a common concern among many dog owners.

There are resources to help you establish confidence in your pup, and help you feel better about leaving your dog unsupervised.

Lookie here, I'm one of them!

Let's talk about making life safer and happier for you and your furmily.

07/14/2017

Do you yell at your dog for barking? Even call their name repeatedly?

If you answered yes- you should know you're barking alongside your pup and that means - reinforcing that behavior!

Yup! You're rewarding your dog for barking.

This means they'll keep doing it... until you get irritated enough to physically stop them. You know who you are.

Redirect! Distract! Reinforce PROPER behavior.

Don't just say, "good boy." And expect your dog to feel rewarded for stopping their barking. Dogs LOVE to bark. Do dogs LOVE to hear their owner bark then say human words from the couch? No, I doubt it. The dog will continue doing what THEY find rewarding.

Once your dog is quiet. Reward by showing love, playing tug or fetch, going outside, or giving a food reward. Don't expect your voice to work better than an outside distraction.

Got Barking?

Let's figure out why and help you have more peace (and quiet) for your home.

Whether excessive barking happens while you're away or at together at home (or all the time...), I can help!

Straight from the Salt Lake County's Website:

"What do I do if I see a dog/cat in someone’s parked car at the store or in a parking lot?

Call that city’s animal control. If it is in Salt Lake County Animal Services’ jurisdiction please call dispatch at 801-743-7045. Take down the license plate number and alert the store manager. DO NOT break the window on your own. Let the authorities do this. During the summer months, animals in hot cars are a top priority call for animal services. Please plan on leaving your furry friend at home if you are running errands or going to a venue that is not intended for animals."

There you have it - DON'T BREAK THE WINDOW

Sometimes, Animal Control may take some time to get there. Informing the store/business the car is parked in front of is probably your best bet - requesting they make an announcement could speed the process up and hopefully avoid any damage (both for the animal and the car).

Stay safe in the heat! Our pups have strong paw pads, but they can still burn. Touch the ground with your palm and if you can't hold it there for 10 seconds it is too hot for your dogs' paws!

Consider this when on walks, going to the vet or pet store, or for any outing where you take your best friend with you.

Keeping an extra bottle of water in the car is also a great idea.

05/02/2017

Try a harness over a collar. They do cost a little more up front - but for your dog it could save them from permanent damage to their throat if they pull.

Have questions on which harness is best for you? Call me!

04/26/2017

Do you pick up after your dog on walks? In most places - the law states you must...

Yet, we still see countless mounds of dog poo in the grass on our walks. Even where there are complimentary bag dispensing stations AND trash cans within a block.

What ideas do you have to help with this dilemma? Maybe if human's got out of the "It's just fertilizer" mind-frame...

It's not fertilizer. It's garbage. And sometimes poisonous. Be smart, be kind. Pick up after your dog where ever they do their business.

04/25/2017

This rain is great for us! How does your dog react in the rain?

Vince and Friday are not fans... but you know what helps? Making sure you dry your dogs paws COMPLETELY when you come back inside. Could you imagine having moist fur between your toes for hours?

No thanks. I suggest keeping a "Dog Towel" by the door, or even on the floor for going out and coming back in during the rain.

Need help training your dog to sit still while you dry their paws? I can help! Call me.
