Maybe the reason we love dogs so much
is because they spend their whole lives
teaching us how to be loved.
They never ask us to be perfect.
They don’t care what we look like,
what we accomplished,
or what kind of day we had.
They just love us.
Every day.
With their whole hearts.
And then one day,
the only heart that ever breaks
is ours.
Because theirs
has stopped beating.
And somehow,
we would still choose it all again.
Every muddy paw.
Every early morning.
Every stolen bite.
Every fur-covered piece of clothing.
Every single day
we got to love them.
Because a lifetime with them
will always be worth
