Orchard Animal Outreach

Orchard Animal Outreach Promoting action and education to nurture respect and compassion in order to help abused and homeless animals. Those not adopted are the ones to go.

Orchard Animal Outreach was created based on lofty goals. We would like to eventually establish a shelter for the shelter animals that are due to be euthanized for a variety of reasons. For some, the time is up, many shelters only keep strays a set number of days. For some, there isn't enough room, some shelters are filled to capacity, some must go in order to make room for more. Some are labeled

"unadoptable" because they are old, sick, scared and evaluated as aggressive and therefore, not even given a first chance let alone a second. It is our goal to build a shelter/sanctuary, large enough to accommodate such animals from shelters throughout the state. In addition, we plan to include a low cost clinic, to continue to provide affordable services for the caretakers of homeless animals, to provide low cost spay and neuters, to participate in TNR with the express goal of only returning truly feral cats to established, well monitored colonies and get friendly cats and kittens off the streets and into rescue groups. We plan to provide interim boarding for these animals, to sponsor adoption events, to treat injured or ill shelter animals, and to provide hospice in some cases. We are dedicated to educating the public, to promote responsibility and a lifelong commitment to pets.

THIS!!!
You cannot claim to stop unplanned litters or reduce suffering while actively taking in pregnant cats for the purpose of having those kittens born.
THAT IS NOT PREVENTION
IT'S PARTICIPATION IS THE CYCLE

This might be hard to hear, but it needs to be said. Allowing pregnant cats to give birth is NOT rescue.
It may "feel" like rescue and it may "look" like rescue... but it is NOT rescue.

It directly contributes to the overpopulation crisis we are all trying to fix.
Every litter born adds more kittens into an already overwhelmed system. It takes resources away from cats already here and increases suffering long-term.

TNR exists for a reason.
You cannot claim to stop unplanned litters or reduce suffering while actively taking in pregnant cats for the purpose of having those kittens born.

THAT IS NOT PREVENTION
IT'S PARTICIPATION IS THE CYCLE

Real prevention means making the hard call and spaying the mom BEFORE birth.
Actually stop the cycle. You are in control.

This work isn’t about what makes us feel better in the moment. It’s about the animals and what actually reduces suffering over time.

Because the truth is…
you’re not saving them if you’re creating more of them.

4/28/26 - I am adding to this post as it seems many missed what was being said. This post wasn't about any specific rescue. No specific organization was being called out, it wasn't even about "a rescue"... it was about a practice being used. Purposely seeking pregnant cats for the kittens and discarding the mother cats.

"bud" 😸🌿

We have fresh "bud" this morning for trappers so they can enrich their colonys with some play time, or steep in warm bone broth for a nice, calming tummy soother.

Reminder..oac still has disinfectants for trap cleaning, paper, covers, food, whatever you may need for tnr. Just ask, or shoot us an email and we can see what we can help with.

We believe in always being transparent with our supporters, so we’re sharing this message after someone suggested our donors should see where we stand on spay/abort.

In that conversation, our stance was described as “kitten-cide.”

𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝘂𝘀 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝘆/𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗹𝘆, and it is never about cruelty. Our stance comes from years of firsthand experience in the field and the realities we see every day.

𝗪𝗲’𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀.

💔We’ve seen pregnancies that appeared healthy suddenly go wrong.
💔We’ve held stillborn kittens.
💔We’ve held kittens born alive who only survived briefly.
💔We’ve seen mothers unable to care for their litters.
💔We’ve seen the harsh realities kittens face, even when everything seems “safe.”

Birth 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 carries risk indoors or outdoors.

There is nothing cute about spay/abort.
There is nothing easy about it.
There is nothing enjoyable about it.

We are unapologetic advocates for spay/abort on friendly cats, unsocialized cats, and even heavily pregnant cats.

As a TNR organization, it is difficult to watch additional litters be allowed when shelters are overwhelmed, rescues are full, and kittens already here are waiting for homes.

Adding more because it feels better emotionally does not solve overpopulation.

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹.
𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.
𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘂𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴.

That reality is what shapes our stance on spay/abort.

You don’t have to agree with our position, but our supporters deserve to understand why we hold it.

Less births. Less suffering. 💙🐾🐈‍⬛

With donations to OAO all cats in for TNR will receive full exams with treatments and care they need to live their best, pain free lives. This includes wound care, ear cleaning, treatments for mites, coat care, comb/shave out matted fur, dental checks, pulling loose teeth, cleanings, sometimes more extensive surgys and/or hospitalization. We will make recommendations for future care or care we cannot provide. They also get to stay overnight in our quiet, climate controlled clinic to have a safe, peaceful recovery before returning to their outside homes. We offer this free of charge, but donations are always welcome to continue these services.
