I just realized how badly I've neglected to keep up posting on this page. Well, let's get back into it with an introduction post. The newest member of our pack is puppy Sage, bred by Lacie Stultz-Bond with Bond Acres Danes & Doxies. She was born September 7th and has been with us since around Halloween. She's been such an easy puppy to integrate into our lives and has been so fun to watch grow. She still has a few puppy teeth to lose. She is the best friend of our teenage Dane Echo. She finally has all her shots and has begun exploring the outside world with PetSmart, Home Depot, and Tanner Dog Park as the few places she's visited so far. She loves to meet new people and isn't too afraid of anything we've found yet. Though a chihuahua did scare/bewilder her 😂

I have had a Tree Litter (Jan 2024) puppy parent reach out that life has made keeping their sweet boy Bleu impossible and she will need to rehome him. For now he is still in their home, but time is running out for him to be able to stay there. He is a sweet big goofy boy who lives with a young toddler currently. I don't have much info yet, but have asked for much more to share with everyone in the hopes this beauty cam find his forever home! If you or anyone you know has room in their home and hearts for him, please reach out!

The Hunting Great Dane.
Nowadays, the Great Dane is often called the gentle giant, because the absolute majority of dogs are really gentle. But you should know, the race was not always like that, the Great Dane was a hunting dog for large animals, with emphasis on wild boars. Hence the original name Boarhound (wild boar dog). As you can see, the Dogs were bred with a high functional ability to suit this task, not ascetics.

The two returned friends have settled in rather well and are beginning to show their personalities more each day.

Maggie is a sweet cuddler who has really enjoyed having other dogs to play Bitey-Face with. She's a very reserved girl. She needs more work being mindful on leash. She walks well but then will bolt to the end to sniff something which hurts and gives some insight into the danger her previous family was in trying to walk this strong girl. They did awesome with her. She takes treats very soft, knows her basics, had traveled by car from Utah to Missouri/Milwaukee (I can't remember which was said now that I'm trying) and back to visit family.

We kennel at night for everyone's safety which has been a tough learning experience for Maggie, but she's getting more comfortable. Pluto was used to being kenneled.

Pluto walks well on the leash, takes treats really soft, and has his basics down. A few in the house accidents the first 36 hours with Pluto, but that's something we anticipated adding two previously single dogs into the home. Maggie hasn't had any accidents. No resource guarding. Overall a rather smooth transition going from 3 to 5 adult Danes in just 12 hours.

It's been a WILD day here at SMGD. Today we welcomed back not one, but two of our Tree Litter puppies. We meant it when we said they're always welcome to return and we will do our best to find them their perfect fit.

Pluto, formerly Elm, is a big soft boy who was returned because his families living situation took an unexpected turn.

Maggie, formerly Ash, came back to us because her family is facing medical hardships along with older age which has just made a rambunctious 100 pound dog a bit on the dangerous side.

Maggie has been spayed, is UTD on vaccines, and will be looking for her home soon.
Pluto will be getting neutered before finding his new family so he will be here a bit longer.

On March 30th our sweet Maple (Donut) brought these four precious goobers into this world. We decided our litter theme would be baked goods. Sired by our boy Scotch. Two blue merle and two blue with white markings.
