It’s been one week with my new foster Dwight, and this sweet boy is still carrying so much trauma. Every movement has to be slow and gentle so I don’t scare him. He sleeps most of the day, doesn’t know how to play yet, and is still learning what it means to feel safe.

He does love his pupcycles, though. Bully sticks… we’re still working on that part.

I’d love any suggestions from people who’ve helped a deeply frightened dog learn to trust again. He deserves the world, and I’m committed to helping him get there.

I may be picking up Dwight’s brother on Monday. His foster fell through, and he isn’t doing well at the shelter. My hope is that being together will bring them both some comfort — that it makes things better, not harder. These boys have already survived so much side by side. Maybe being reunited is exactly what they need.
