Rowan County Animal Shelter We believe a safer world starts with kindness. Our mission is to protect the vulnerable—both animals and people—with compassion as our compass.

The Rowan County Animal Shelter is an open admission, municipal shelter committed to protecting animals while working to promote a harmonious atmosphere between the animals and residents of our county. Over the years our Shelter has strived to become more adoption friendly and inclusive of the community who supports us. We have gone from averaging 35 adoptions a month in 2010, to saving the lives

of more than 3,000 animals in 2020. The Animal Shelter and all of its staff are very proud of the progress that has been made and know that none of it would be possible without the hard work and dedication of our caring citizens.

In the month of August, 442 animals found safety, love, and second chances through our shelter. That incredible number wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of our staff, adopters, volunteers, rescue partners, networkers, and generous donors. Every person who walked a dog, shared a post, opened their home, or donated supplies played a part in changing lives. 💙

As we move into September, we’re asking for your continued support. Our kennels are filling up fast, and the need for adopters is greater than ever.
