My fourth little baby up for adoption is Pepper!
I held off on this post because Pepper isn’t *technically* available just yet.
Pepper is a four month old, gray tabby female. She was originally adopted from Rowan County Animal Shelter, but was brought back two days later with a broken leg.
Pepper has two femoral fractures of the back left leg. The mid-shaft fracture appears to be older (likely before she came into the shelter) as it was healing and callusing at the time of the x-ray. The femoral head fracture is fresher - likely occurring when her previous adopter said she got loose and into the garage.
When I pulled her as a medical foster, she wouldn’t put any weight on her bad leg and the vet suggested either an amputation or an FHO surgery in a few weeks.
So I did my best to keep her as inactive as possible (not easy when she repeatedly escaped the tent I had her confined to).
Over time, it became clear that she was healing. She didn’t need her pain meds anymore. She was putting weight on her bad leg. She was desperate to play with my other kittens and cats. She was running and jumping - even in the small room she stays in.
And after her most recent appointment, the vet confirmed what I already knew. Pepper is an amazing little cat. Both her fractures are healing - slowly - but getting there. It’s to the point where she might not need surgery at all. And she certainly won’t need an amputation.
So Pepper will be with me until at least December, when she’ll get another check up and we’ll see if she’s ready to be spayed and move on to her forever home!
