Who says bravery isn't showing up even when you're scared? 💜🐾

Yesterday, Lavender took on one of her biggest challenges: her annual wellness visit. New people, unfamiliar places, strange smells...none of these things come easily to Lavender. In fact, they're pretty overwhelming for her.

But despite being nervous, Lavender showed everyone just how far she's come. She quietly made it through her exam, allowed the veterinary team to care for her, and proved that courage doesn't always look bold and fearless. Sometimes, courage looks like taking things one small step at a time.

Lavender is a 3-year-old girl looking for a very special adopter. She is extremely shy with strangers and needs someone experienced, patient, and committed to helping her continue building confidence. While she may freeze around unfamiliar people, Lavender is not aggressive, she's simply scared and needs time to feel safe.

Once you've earned her trust, though, you'll discover a playful, energetic sweetheart who loves toys, zooming around with her dog friends, and snuggling up in a warm lap after a day of fun.

We know her perfect person is out there: someone who will celebrate the little victories, respect her pace, and see the incredible dog hiding behind that shy exterior.

If you have the experience, patience, and heart to help Lavender continue her journey, please submit an adoption application. We promise she's worth every bit of effort. 💜

Today we're sharing a bittersweet update from one of our adopters.

In November 2016, a little dog named Scruffles left our rescue and began a new life. His family quickly renamed him Sam (or Samboni), and over the next nearly 10 years he became a beloved companion, adventure buddy, and family member.

Sam traveled thousands of miles across at least 11 states, enjoyed countless beach trips, and spent years walking 3–5 miles a day with his favorite people. In his later years, when those long walks became more difficult, he still got to enjoy his neighborhood adventures from a special pull cart.

After a year-long battle with health issues, Sam's family made the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye in the comfort of their home. While their hearts are heavy, they take comfort in knowing he lived a life full of love, happiness, and, in the words of friends and family, was "very spoiled." We think that's exactly how every rescue animal deserves to live.

Stories like Sam's remind us why rescue matters. Because of adoption, one little dog got nearly a decade of beach days, road trips, neighborhood strolls, and unconditional love.

To Sam: Thank you for being such a wonderful ambassador for rescue, and thank you to your family for giving you the incredible life every animal dreams of. ❤️🐾

Meet Pepper 🌶️🐾

Pepper is a 5-week-old gray tabby kitten with what can only be described as a very “scrumply” little face and the scrungiest personality to match. Between her permanently derpy expression and absolute kitten chaos energy, this tiny girl keeps us laughing nonstop.

Pepper was delivered to the sanctuary feeling a little under the weather, but after a vet visit and some antibiotics, she’s feeling much better and has fully unlocked her crazy kitten mode. She spends her days bouncing around, causing tiny problems, and looking adorably confused about it the entire time.

She is not available just yet because she’s still too young, but Pepper will be available for adoption applications next week. We have a feeling this goofy little girl is going to steal a lot of hearts. 💕

Hi friends, I’m Firefly and apparently my sister Fireball and I had the same brilliant idea: “Hey, let’s just wander onto a nice human’s porch and see what happens.”

A few days after Fireball showed up, I found my way to the very same porch like a tiny glowing beacon. The sanctuary says it’s pretty clear we’re sisters: we’re both orange girls, both full of personality, and both convinced the world is our playground.

I’m an 8-week-old orange tabby with lots of kitten energy, lots of opinions, and lots of love to give. I’m playful, curious, sweet, and always ready to investigate absolutely everything.

I’m super affectionate and confident, with a happy tail held high and a purr that turns on the second you give me attention. I get along great with other cats, kids, and cat-friendly dogs, too. I’d especially love a home with another kitty friend so I can keep learning, playing, and causing tiny, adorable mischief.

Firefly is dewormed, up-to-date on kitten vaccinations, and combo tested negative. The adoption fee is $125 and will cover her spay when she is old enough.

Apply online to adopt Firefly and brighten up your family!

One year ago on Memorial Day, Faithful Friends welcomed one of the most unforgettable little families we’ve ever rescued: our “Junkyard Desert Pups.”

Mama Arizona arrived with her five puppies after surviving in heartbreaking conditions. She was severely underweight, exhausted, and unable to produce milk, and the puppies were quiet and weak. We knew they had made it to us just in time.

With proper nutrition, vet care, safety, and love, this little family completely transformed. The puppies became playful and full of personality, while Mama Arizona blossomed into the happy, energetic girl she was always meant to be.

Today, every single one of them is thriving in loving homes.

Henry (formerly Cactus) is a scruffy little troublemaker who keeps his family laughing daily. Birdie (formerly Sedona) and Frannie (formerly Prissy, another FFAS alum) are adored “blonde girls” living their best lives together. Wile E. Coyote (who kept his name) is a spunky lovebug with cat siblings and a tiny Chihuahua bestie named Pip. Axel (formerly Prickly Pear) keeps his canine brothers on their toes, and C**t (formerly Hawk) is spoiled by his loving family. Mama Arizona, now Belly, spends her days enjoying toys, walks, sunny naps, and backyard adventures with the family who adores her.

Stories like this are only possible because of your support.

These pups needed emergency veterinary care, nutritious food, vaccines, preventatives, supplies, and weeks of rehabilitation before they were ready for forever homes. Every animal we rescue comes with those same needs, and right now, we are caring for more animals waiting for their second chance.

If you’d like to help us continue saving dogs like Arizona and her puppies, please consider making a donation today. Your support directly funds medical care, food, shelter, and rehabilitation for animals who have nowhere else to go. 🤎🐾

Birdie has an UPDATE to share:

Hi everybody, Birdie here! 🐾

I’ve officially decided sanctuary life is pretty great. I’m really starting to come out of my shell and show everyone my sparkling personality (which, obviously, is adorable).

Yesterday I had my one-week weigh-in and guess what? I LOST 4 whole pounds! I’m now down to 115 lbs and feeling better already. The humans keep telling me how proud they are, which means I expect extra praise and snacks immediately.

I also took a little trip to the vet for bloodwork and my ProHeart injection. I was a bit nervous at first, but with some special medicine to help me relax, I handled everything like a champ and passed my check-up with flying colors. Gold star for me. ⭐

One thing you should know about me: I LOVE my walks. Seriously. If the humans are running late, I make sure to remind them. Loudly. Exercise waits for no one.

And the BIGGEST discovery of all? The pool!!! Turns out sitting in cool water on a hot day is basically the greatest invention ever. I splash, I lounge, I supervise the yard from my little pool throne… it’s a whole lifestyle.

I can’t wait to keep getting healthier, happier, and more confident over the next few weeks. Stay tuned for more Birdie adventures! 💕

Meet P**f! 🐾

P**f is a 4-month-old dachshund mix puppy with a big personality packed into a tiny body. He came to the sanctuary with his parents, Cosmo and Wanda, and clearly inherited all the best qualities: sweet, social, and completely obsessed with people.

This little guy LOVES attention and would happily spend all day curled up in your lap soaking up cuddles. When he’s not snuggling, he’s busy playing, making new dog friends, and charming everyone he meets with his goofy puppy energy.

P**f is the total package: affectionate, playful, social, and oh-so-sweet. If you’re looking for a best friend who will follow you everywhere and shower you with love, P**f is ready to make your life a whole lot cuter.

Sesame arrived at Faithful Friends in 2022 as one of a litter of nine puppies. While many of his brothers and sisters quickly found homes, Sesame stayed behind at the sanctuary alongside his brother, Basil, and sister, Lavender, patiently waiting for a family of his own.

Although Sesame was the most outgoing of his siblings, he was still shy, and that often made potential adopters overlook him. So we continued to shower him with love, giving him special treats, spending time running and playing with him, and helping him build confidence every day. Over time, everyone at the sanctuary grew deeply attached to his goofy, loving personality.

Then, this past April, everything changed. After seeing a post about Sesame on our page, a family submitted an application for him online. We at the sanctuary were shocked and thrilled. Sesame was one of those dogs we adored but rarely, if ever, received applications for.

After the family passed the vet check, we spoke with them and learned about their long history as devoted dog owners, the special pack they had built, and the space they had in their hearts for another companion.

Still, we knew this transition would need to happen slowly and at Sesame’s pace to ensure success for everyone involved. During the first visit, Sesame offered gentle sniffs and nervous glances, but there was something hopeful in his body language that told us he was ready to open his world a little wider.

Together, the sanctuary staff and the family created a careful plan. The family had an event scheduled at the end of May and didn’t want to bring him home only to board him right away. Instead, they visited multiple times each week, sometimes individually, sometimes with their dogs, so Sesame could gradually get to know them and begin feeling safe.

His biggest breakthrough came when he met two of their three dogs at the sanctuary. His tail started wagging, and for the first time, it seemed like he realized these new friends might become his forever family.

Once he became comfortable with meet-and-greets at the sanctuary, we moved on to home visits. One of our staff members brought him to the family’s house so he could explore his potential new surroundings. Sesame surprised everyone by confidently roaming the backyard, sniffing every corner, and eventually walking right into the house like he already belonged there.

After three successful home visits, each one helping him grow more confident, we knew Sesame, now renamed Sulley, was finally ready to go home. He stayed with us until his family returned from their trip, and yesterday, he officially went home for good.

This adoption took countless hours of patience, trust, and dedication from both the sanctuary staff and Sulley’s new family. But every step led to this moment: Sulley beginning the rest of his life surrounded by love, soaking up sunshine in the backyard, and getting into shenanigans with his new dog siblings.

Now, Sulley has not just one family, but two, both committed to supporting him, loving him, and cheering him on forever. We at Faithful Friends are proud to say that Sesame, now Sulley, has been ADOPTED!
