Update on our returned 8-1/2 y.o. Newf. Her neglect is heartbreaking and we speculate she wouldn't have lived another month or two. She is atleast 30 pounds underweight and walked all hunched up, totally dehydrated. So sad, but the great news is She DOES have a home waiting for her, so she's NOT up for adoption. She has stretched out, literally looks like she's a couple inches longer, which we think is her getting rehydrated. She's finally eating good. We started with 3 small meals and now she's eating 3 normal meals. So between hydration and food, her bones are not as pronounced. (Still horrible, but not death bed horrible). She has never lived indoors and she is loving the A/C and a bit resistant to going outside, but can we blame her? She is my shadow and sleeps by my side of the bed, by the A/c vent of course. The last couple of days, she has slept 12+ hours in my bedroom, comes out stretches, yawns, goes outside to potty and then eats her breakfast. She's finally decompressing enough to restore her wonderful personality. She's becoming playful with the other dogs and with us. Sometimes a bit ornery. I love it all and so glad to see her doing better. Here's her picture from today. P.S. she is a Sarabi/Ruger pup for those asking.

This day has reminded me of the good, bad and ugly part of raising Newfoundland pups. I don't want to throw shade, yet if it's true is it shade? And I definitely don't want to discourage anyone from getting ahold of me if they can't keep a dog born here. It's happened in the past and it'll happen in the future. Because Life Happens! With this in mind, this 8-1/2 year old Newf re-entered our lives. Long story short, owners handed over ranch to son, left dog with ranch, son was not living at the ranch, renters moved to ranch house, renters cattle dogs chased the Newf and the Newf lived in barn, and so on. There's more, but you get the pic. The original owners took her to the vet and groomer before bringing her here. She smells great but looks horrible. I'm guessing 90 pounds, if that. She's tall and big b***d and should weigh about 130 to 140. We are heart broken for her and trying to decifer everything we've been told and decifer what we haven't been told. She's emaciated and on meds, which we need to figure out if she needs to be on these meds. She met our crew of dogs and immediately settled in. She loves the air conditioning. She's decompressing, eating as much as she can handle, drinking a ton. Lord, this is the saddest I've been since I started raising these Gentle Giants.

Do you remember your first Newf? Do you want to share a picture? 30+ years ago, I dreamed of getting a Newfoundland. It wasn't easy. Google was not invented, web pages, nope, not there. It was phone calls and newspaper ads. Can I afford this? Is this finally my heart dog? What don't I know about this breed? More questions than answers. But, we did find our Bear, our first Newfie, and he changed our lives. My kids and now grandkids love this breed. I think, sometimes, I take the whole experience for granted. Honestly, once I found the best dog I'd ever met and then realized all the Newfs I met were the best dog I'd ever met, it changed me. I'm so grateful for this gentle breed. Here is a picture of a Newf that has been returned to us, at no fault of his. He reminded me, once again, how desperately I wanted this dream dog 30 years ago.

Can you guess my adult weight? A bit about me: I'm a boy baby. My Mom says I'm a big boy for 7 weeks old. She keeps saying I'm sooo heavy. I think she said 16 pounds. I don't know what that means. I love to play with my friends . I love, love, love kissing my Mom. She tells me I'm gorgeous.

What brought you to us, your Newfie breeder, and what investigation/due diligence did you do to feel comfortable with your decision? We've recently discovered a scam with a very similar business name....I posted a few screenshots of their website and commented on some of the red flags. Went a bit further in investigation and they're out of Africa.... We are NOT associated with these people.
