šŸ™Thank you, Puppy Culture, for this great article on potty training and the thought process behind it all!

šŸ’”Remember, puppies don’t do anything out of spite.

šŸ’”How you react to your puppy having an indoor potty accident can affect your puppy's potty behaviors.

šŸ’”Learn your puppy’s pre-potty signals.

šŸ’”If you are not actively engaged with your puppy, they should not have free run of the house to help prevent accidents.

šŸ’” Set alarms on your phone, Alexa, Google Home, etc., at 30 min, 45 min, 1 hr, 2hrs, or whatever interval stage your puppy is at with potty frequency. Life happens, and we get busy, so use technology to help you remember.

Great flow chat! Teaching your dog to sit in the house, but then wonder why they can’t do it very well in other places?

Dogs don’t generalize well- meaning just because they know it in one place doesn’t mean they understand how to do it everywhere -YET

Going from very little distraction to STIMULATION OVERLOAD in one step makes it difficult for a dog to be successful!

Little by Little, add in small amounts of distraction!

Great informative read!

I like to keep in mind that pets have very little choice in what happens to them. So, as much as possible give choice to help the dog learn!

Yes! Figure out why a behavior is happening! Sometimes we get emotionally wrapped up in a dog’s behavior that we forget to think about why the behavior is happening. It’s necessary to take a step back and separate your emotions about the behavior to see why the behavior is happening!

Lots of worried parents call me to find out how to stop their dog from doing something unpleasant around their children.

But this is often a mindset issue. Instead of asking how to stop a behavior, such as growling, we need to ask ourselves why the dog is growling in the first place.

The BIG question is how we can help to make our dogs comfortable. The end result is usually happier dogs and safer kids.

PART 2!

Getting ready for some biking adventures with Hugh T Duty - in his new convertible!

He has some hip dysplasia, so he can’t run and hike as much as he would like and as much as we like. So, we are adding/adjusting our lifestyle to include biking, where he can rest in a bike dog trailer between some activity.

But first, we must train/condition him to be comfortable there - in small steps!

Thanks Burley for this awesome Bark Ranger bike trailer!
