Squirrels have no way to process sodium. What tastes like a treat to you is toxic to their tiny bodies.

- Squirrel kidneys can't filter excess salt the way ours can
- A few salted peanuts can cause dehydration, seizures, and organ failure
- They don't know the difference — they'll eat whatever you offer
- Roasted and flavored nuts contain oils and seasonings that cause digestive damage
- Raw, unsalted peanuts, almonds, and walnuts are safe alternatives
- Sunflower seeds in the shell give them food and foraging enrichment

You meant to give them a snack. You gave them a slow poison instead.

The "Tree Painting" Hack for Extreme Cold 🥜🌳
When temps drop into single digits, your hanging feeder isn't enough. Birds need calories they can access without fighting wind.
The solution: Bark Butter.
WHAT IT IS:
High-calorie paste (suet + peanut butter + seeds) spread directly onto tree bark. Birds can feed while clinging to the sheltered side of a trunk.
DIY RECIPE:

• 1 cup rendered suet or lard (NOT bacon grease)
• 1 cup natural peanut butter (no salt/sugar)
• 2 cups quick oats
• 1 cup cornmeal
• 1/2 cup black oil sunflower seeds

Mix when suet is soft. Spread directly onto bark of large trees — oaks, maples, any rough-barked species. Focus on the side opposite prevailing wind.
WHY IT WORKS:

• Tree trunk blocks wind (reduces calorie burn)
• Bark provides grip for clinging birds
• Multiple feeding spots reduce competition
• Available 24/7, even in ice storms

PRO TIP: "Paint" it into bark crevices so it doesn't fall off. Refresh every 2-3 days in extreme cold.
Species that go crazy for this: Woodpeckers, Nuthatches, Chickadees, Brown Creepers.

When you’re doing a heated birdbath… Try and put a stone or two in the middle for the birds to stand on while they get a fresh drink….We normally have a nice selection of baths but everything is back ordered at this time. We will post when we get them back in stock.

The deck mounted bath in the picture is a customer that just purchased our last one and she absolutely loves it…She said that she never had bluebirds before. Thanks for sharing your picture with us.
