⚠️Attention Clients⚠️

I will still be doing my trimming during this EHV Virus outbreak. I will be taking extra precautions of sanitizing my equipment, chaps, and clothes. Due to the outbreak I will most likely be spacing out my clients per week so I can insure safety for my clients animals. There are currently no confirmed cases in Missouri and I know my current clients haven’t traveled out of state or board with anyone that has. I’m just taking the extra precautions as I’d want other people to do for my horses!

I’ve have a lot of people message me about the difference of glue-ons and steel shoes. So I decided to get my textbook and notes from school out and write up some information and differences. A lot of people are old school and don’t like change. I get it!

My mare Betty is very tender footed. So she has to have glue-on shoes in order to walk to the barn from her paster if she is so lame. I have a video of her on concrete with her left hooves barefoot and she was so stiff and timid to walk because it was painful. But, when I glued her shoe back on she was walking across the gravel no problem! Video difference is in the comments.

When their foot hits the floor their feet expand and the hoof fills with blood. The metal horse show it binds the foot so the foot doesn’t get to expand completely so the foot doesn’t get all the blood it normally would. The glue on shoes to the same prince-able as metal nail on shoes but it lets the foot expands. Open horse shoeing causes collapsed digital cushion. Slowing down the blood flow shows down the growth of the hoof and makes them more confined. Metal Shoes causes the hoof not to expand which causes the hoof to jam up, which in barefoot the foot expands so it absorbed it and cushions it.

The glue ons add more support to the frog, promotes better blood flow, reduces concussions, and minimizes stress on joints and tendons. They are also more flexible, lighter, and easier to work with as in if your needed to add more support to there sole. They also have shoes specifically designed for barrel racers and if you’re not wanting to get away from the metal completely they have the glue ons with the metal imbedded in them for the traction purposes.

I just put a new set on Betty and had to add dim to the one hoof because she is so tender footed and the difference it made was amazing. Everyone has their own opinions and it’s really hard to get people to switch or get away from shoes.

Just a normal day for me! These horses have been a client of mine for about a year now and so happy with the results and seeing how much better they react to me trimming them. When I first started trimming this horse he would shake due to the last farrier being harsh to him. Took him a couple trims from me to realize I’m not going to be harsh and I have the patience.
