Just thought I'd share this with the winter months coming up, and us dog owners, including myself wanting to keep our pups hair/fur a little longer.
I do have a product that works like magic on small mats now but still, this meme is so right!!
Just imagine how painful and stressful it is to try and work out mats. Grooming should never be a stressful occassion for your dog. Grooming day should be like a spa day for our dogs. They should be relaxed, refreshed and feeling good after!
Chances are, if you bring a matted dog to me it's going to get shaved! Please understand, I am truly keeping your dogs best interest and comfort level at heart. I do this because I love and care about animals. I had a dog I had to shave down that had bruising on her skin because her mats were so tight! Again, please understand why us groomers make that choice. I do warn the owner before doing a full shave so they have the option to leave their dog matted and/or bring them somewhere else. Most owners do understand but some just don't.
Here's some perspective, I had a client with some mats on just her ears. It took me one full hour for just ears, that is not including the rest of the groom! Although she was a good girl and very patient it still was clearly not what she wanted to be doing. Mat removal is hard on everyone, your dog's happiness/comfort, the Groomer's back, and mom or dad's wallet.
So just keep in mind, it's hair and it will grow back! Ask yourself, what's more important your happiness or your dogs health?
