Should I make a trip to a remote part of Asia or South America to collect some fish?

𝑅𝑎𝑘𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑚𝑖𝑐ℎ𝑡ℎ𝑦𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑐ℎ𝑖, a new species of phreatobitic swamp eel (Synbranchidae), is described from wells in a small village in Goalpara District, Assam, northeast India.

"The discovery of 𝑅. 𝑎𝑛𝑐ℎ𝑖 from wells in the same village in which 𝐺𝑖𝑡𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑘 𝑛𝑎𝑘𝑎𝑛𝑎 Britz et al. was recently described highlights the presence of a formerly unknown and highly dynamic subterranean habitat: the groundwater aquifers in alluvial deposits in northeast India."

Phreatobitic refers to organisms (phreatobites) that live exclusively within the phreatic zone, which is the subterranean area of groundwater aquifers completely saturated with water.

𝑅𝑎𝑘𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑚𝑖𝑐ℎ𝑡ℎ𝑦𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑐ℎ𝑖, a new species of phreatobitic synbranchid is described from wells in a small village in Goalpara District, Assam, Northeast India.

It is distinguished from the northeastern Indian 𝑅. 𝑟𝑜𝑛𝑔𝑠𝑎𝑤, and the Western Ghats congeners 𝑅. 𝑟𝑜𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑖, 𝑅. 𝑑𝑖𝑔𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑢𝑠, and 𝑅. 𝑚𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑎 by absence of lateral-line canal pores in the frontal. From 𝑅. 𝑟𝑜𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑖, 𝑅. 𝑑𝑖𝑔𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑢𝑠, and 𝑅. 𝑚𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑎, it is further distinguished by more preanal vertebrae (90–100 vs. 76–88 in) and from 𝑅. 𝑖𝑛𝑑𝑖𝑐𝑢𝑠 by more vertebrae (159 vs.162–169). It is also distinguished from the Western Ghats species by an uncorrected p-distance of ~15–20% in the barcoding gene. From 𝑅. 𝑟𝑜𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑖, the only Western Ghats species for which detailed osteological information is available, 𝑅. 𝑎𝑛𝑐ℎ𝑖 is distinguished by several anatomical characters.

𝗘𝘁𝘆𝗺𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆
The species name is derived from the Garo word ‘an·chi’, meaning ‘blood’ alluding to its blood-red colouration in life.

I left a few tanks outside after shutting down the racks a few days ago. I found this friend after lifting one of the empty tanks. A gorgeous Red Bellied Snake. Who else loves these guys?

I still have some tank stands available that hold 40 breeders and 75 gallon tanks. If you don’t mind an inch over hang out the front or back you could fit a large amount of 10 gallons on these racks for breeding!

I also have 75 gallons (drilled but with stand pipes so you can use them as regular undrilled tanks, 40 breeders, 20 longs, 20 highs and 10s available.

What’s up aquatic hobbyists?

Ever had dreams of opening a fish store or even a mega fishroom? I am planning to focus on my career in healthcare for now and will not be opening a store again soon like planned. The website wasn’t as enjoyable as I thought it would be and I’m shutting that down. I miss providing a spot for the aquarium community to hang out at and enjoy in person.

I have these beautifully build stands available. I built them when I was planning to expand to a much larger store but then ended up having those severe landlord issues and I’ve never recovered. I moved these stands to my dry barn and they have been in storage ever since. They have never been used. Brand new wood, fresh paint and screws when built. They could just use a wipe down.

This is your chance at a INSTANT fish store with minimal effort. All you’d need is some tanks and an air system! I’d rather they go to someone that will put them to good use.
