Pyometra (uterus filled with nasty thick infection) in cats is a real thing but not seen very often because most cats get pregnant when bred. This sweet kitty is 2 years old and a strictly indoor cat so getting bred is possible but not probable. When she came in to heat her hormones betrayed her and allowed an infection to take place. Treatment is to spay ASAP! The pictures are of her swollen uterus once removed and what the inside looked like.
Advantages to spaying early is avoiding unwanted litters, elimination of infection risks, and actually reducing the risk of breast cancer.
