CAN ALL DOGS SWIM?

Surprisingly, the answer is “no.”

Many people believe that all dogs can swim as they will initiate a paddling motion when in or near water.

That, in no way, enables all breeds to swim.

As some breeds have water-shedding coats, webbed paws and an ability to hold their head above water, others, such as short-muzzled dogs (Brachycephalic dogs), larger dogs with heavier heads and dogs with proportionally small legs tend to struggle.

When a dog needs to position its body in an unnatural position, simply to keep its muzzle out of the water, it is unlikely that they will be able to propel themselves toward the side of the pool or to shore. By becoming “more vertical” to enable breathing, many dogs are unable to remain afloat.

Short-legged breeds such as the Dachshund may not be able to generate enough force to move atop the water. Additionally, their weight distribution makes swimming an almost impossible task.

Despite these anatomical disadvantages, some of these breeds still manage to swim.
For dogs that show an interest in the water, but appear unable to stay afloat, there are a number of canine life-jackets available on the market.

Interestingly, there are breeds that are surely capable swimmers, however, lack interest in swimming or have a fear of the water. Dogs should not be forced to swim if they appear frightened or are unwilling.

About the Role:

As a Veterinary Receptionist, you will play a crucial role in creating a welcoming and efficient environment for our clients and their beloved pets.

Responsibilities:

Provide friendly and compassionate service to clients both in person and over the phone.
Answer multi-line phone system and efficiently schedule appointments.
Greet and check-in clients and their pets, ensuring accurate information is collected.
Offer recommendations and information on products and pet diets.
Process payments and handle cash, checks, and credit cards accurately.
Proactively contact clients for appointment reminders and follow-up care.
Manage email reminders and assist with updating social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook).
Maintain organized patient files and ensure client confidentiality.
Contribute to a clean and sanitary hospital environment.
Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with fluency in English. Bi-lingual abilities are a plus!
Prior experience in a veterinary setting is required.
A genuine passion for animal welfare and a commitment to providing outstanding client service.
Proficiency in handling pets with confidence and care.
